Default My efforts to Decrease Temps and Increase Traction (Full-Race, Gator, BFG, HPC)

I had some down time due to a wastegate issue. So, I figured I'd upgrade a few things to raise the bar a little... My main efforts pertained to decreasing under hood temps and increasing traction. Pictures are usually worth more than a couple words. So, have a peek. My weekend off should be fun...that is if Mase ever gets around to sending my chip back

Temp picures:

Full-race Mani with HPC coating (no wastegate)

Full-race Mani HPC coating (Black 44mm Tial wastegate)

Full-race down pipe with high temp wrap

Traction Pictures
225/50 BFG Drag Radials

Modified Stage 3 Gator Axles

Full-race traction bars

And lastly, one of my favorite pics :

I have yet to install everything. And it may be some time before I get her up and running. I may be able to install everything tomorrow. But, in the meantime, I have to wait on Mase....

Size isn't the only factor. Material and workmanship are huge factors when it comes to quality products:

That coating looks good. What was HPC's turn around time to get the manifold coated?

The turn around time was only a couple days. It turned out better than I had anticipated.

I have the same axles...

They don't really look that much 'beefier' but they are definately a heavier metal...

Although I know the gator site says something about the shaft being lighter than OEM, my axles (the entire assembly) definately weigh more.

Man I wish they made those BFG's in a 235/50/15 or 245/50/15. The 225's on my car just smoke everywhere I go.

I have a feeling I'll be saying the same thing. But I'm sure the BFG's are better than the 205/45 16's I have on their now.

I'm also going to try out this setup:

anyone know how effective those heat coatings are compared to a heat "wrap" such as the one pictured on your down pipe ? ??

I just got off the phone with an HPC engineer. He really didn't want to compair the two (wrap and coating). He stated that he feels the wrap is detrimental to metal. He also stated that the wrap can also be a wick during possible fires. Due to those variables, he didn't recommend the wrap; therefore didn't compair the thermal differences between the two.

On the coating, he said that underhood temps can see an 18-25% reduction.

So, to answer the question... I don't know

Very nice parts man, good luck post install it was definitely money well spent.

Edit: You probably already know but you had better water proof that heat wrap or you are gonna see some serious steam every time it rains. With out waterproofing the wrap will also rot pretty quickly. They make a waterproofing spray for it but in the pic yours did not apear to be coated.

The exhaust wrap and similar coatings are not just used to reduce under hood temps. They also speed up the exhaust flow by retaining the heat from the exhaust.

Thanks for the advice. I really don't drive the car when its raining. The car is only happy when the pavement is dry.

the coating works pretty good but the wrap definetly brings temp down. it'll look great in the car

OOOOOOO CROME LOFL
That manifold is phucking gorgeous ::DROOL::!!
I love that black WG with the Full-Race manifold. It would have been nice to get the lower WG housing coated as well. That is what I will be doing when I get a new manifold. I am guessing maybe you didn’t have it when you got the manifold coated since you were having WG problems??

I want to know how much it lowers UH Temp's. That is an issue I am concerned about. I don’t believe that 18-25% really but that would be SWEET if it were true. That is supposed to be from just the manifold not the heat wrap on the DP correct?
I would not run the heat wrap on that flex. It will get nasty quick. You shuold just clamp it off at the ends It will still work great

I tried to order the wastegate from FR, but they were out at the time. Soon there after, I learned that the tial 44mm WG's were on a national backorder. So, by the time I hunted one down, the mani was already on its way to be coated.

I'll keep everyone posted on the results. My hood release cable melted soon after a race gas pull. So, I decided to look into reducing temps...
