is my air/fuel gauge hooked up wrong?
its been installed for like 6 months now and it seems to act different than everyone elses, i thought it was just an 0bd issue. my a/f guage doesnt bounce back and forth, it idles at lean and stays at lean and the longer you hold the gas down it gradually gets to stoich but just a one yellow bar of it, i never see rich which doesnt make sense. is this normal?
samething happened to me, but mine worked fine for a month or so than it began to do just as you are describing. i went out and bought a new o2 sensor...and now it works. are you throwing a cel code?
i've used an A/F meter for several years now and both of the ones i've had did exactly what yours is doing. at idle it stays lit in the Red, tap the gas and it peaks up a few bars into the Orange, and when under WOT throughout the rpm band it goes up a little past halfway through all the colors (so it's 1 or 2 bars past the very top middle of the gauge).
i have seen an A/F gauge work differently, it would lite up only a few bars at 1 time and sweep the gauge back and forth as the throttle and rpm would change.
this may be the "correct" way for it to work, but my A/F gauges have never worked this way. i hooked the signal wire up near the O2 sensor to the correct wire and at the ECU to the correct wire, both with the same results.
maybe there is a bad ground but i'm very careful with my wiring, always use the correct size wires and super clean connection points.
but either way the A/F meter doesn't do much so don't worry about it too much.
though keeping an eye on it may alert you to something happening.
