Default MSD SCI *failure*

Has anybody had problems with the MSD SCI ignition box. I have used it for maybe like 5000 miles. Yesterday I was driving around and the car started sputtering then stalled and it wouldn't start again. Managed to coast the car to a friends house, since i was only about 1/2 a mile away. We checked compression, etc.. and found no spark, unplugged the coil and there is no spark out the coil at all.

I am just wondering if this is a common problem, since one of my friends, bought the same system at the same time as me. from the same place, and his did basically the same thing.

Are these things just crap?

I've been using them for years (the 6 series, not the SCI - 6 series painted silver and called sport compact) with no problems. I just got an SCI-L for $100 and it works great. If you do have problems you can send them to MSD and they will fix it, usually for under $30 depending on the cost of parts needed.

my 6a went out on me... but this was 2 years later. i have the digital6+ now. seems to work great so far. you could check to see if its the coil or the rotor. if you disconnect the msd sci, see what happens. if everything works with it disconnected.. then most likely its a faulty unit.

NASCAR has ONE system on all the car that has a backup unit... guess what it is.

CORRECT! The MSD box. Let's you know how much even the real racers trust these things...

The symptoms you describe sound just like what happens when an MSD fails. On the other hand, MSD products are used in most top fuel dragsters, so I would assume they do make good products.

Just happend like that to Halo, huh Ben...

Holy ****, I just thought of something.

MSD - Multiple Spark Discharge, right?

Now, here's the irony....

MSD - MicroSoft Distributed!

I have kinda the same problem here. I didn't start the prelude for a month, and now it refuse to start. I have tried ignitor, distributor cap, rotor, coil spark plugs, fuel pressure, fuse, and they are all good. How can I check to see if it is the MSD SCI that is the culprit? if it is, is there any easy way to quickly bypass it?

thanx

naa dude, i think they are still good, and it smoothed out my car alot when i put it on. I think its just there quality might not be the best now. I was just curious if the SCI specificly was a piece of junk, or ppl have had problems with others. My friend liam has a 6a he got used, so who knows how old it is and he has no problems with it for atleast 2 years himself.
