MPG drop with a supercharger?
Basically, i'm looking into a future supercharged project, I've done a turbocharged car, i'm planning a N/A one for my Rx-7 this Spring, and would like to Supercharge a car this Summer, i'm looking at a BMW 318 for a daily driver while i work the bugs out of my Civic and Rx-7, after i get one of those two reliable, i want to supercharge the BMW. I know superchargers are quite a bit of drag and will decrease MPG, i don't mind 2-3, but someone told me it's more like 7-8, who with real life experience knows the actual drop? If it's that much, i won't do it, i plan doing alot of traveling with the BMW, and while my Civic gets good gas mileage, i want to keep the mileage on it down because the motor is new. The Rx-7 i plan swapping a V8 into, so that's going to kill for fuel economy for traveling.
It depends how you drive really...
If tuning is good, you can pretty much maintain the same MPG even with the SC. If the SC is not under load (not producing boost), the parastic drag isn't anything serious.
On my D16Y8, I actually gained gas mileage after the SC. I no longer need to peg the throttle to keep up with traffic and have no problems feathering the throttle during cruising. If I do end up driving spirited all the time, it's not that bad either.
It will also depend on how much power you are pushing with the SC. If you are pushing twice the amount of power, than obviously, it will use about twice the fuel to make that power. Im my case, I was only making about 45 WHP over stock.

That's for the input with actual experience! Makes me want to supercharge it more knowing the facts.

I have not noticed MPG difference either way with mine unless I have my pedal to the floor alot. On the highway it seems no different than it was before.
