Most Hp or stock tranny and axles
Plannirng on building a 600hp b16a street and track car. I know with slicks i'm gonna need axels but i know that racing axels can do tranny damage and ide rather replace a stock axle than the tranny. My question is for street use what would be your guys limit on hp for the stock axels and at 600hp would I need to upgrade the tranny to a stronger than stock one.

Re: Most Hp or stock tranny and axles
People have varying success. I broke a stock axle at 377whp. Some have good luck at 700whp. Granted I did have heavy 18" wheels... Replaced it with a Checker autoparts one and it broke that day. It was a stupid re-man axle. The guy at checker was able to order me a brand new one. Ive had no issues with it at 489whp. Same story with the tranny, success stories are all over the board. People break them at 300 when others have no issues at 700.
As wade said, "with the proper driving and preloading" you should be fine at 600... but who knows the luck you'll have

haha ya you knew what i ment tho. Ok my old set up was 454whp and I have stock ones and a stock tranny. I just dont want to be on the highway and have one snap or lock the tranny up. I guess with street tires i will prob spin the tires before i snap an one so maybe like you i'll get a 3.9 how about with slicks tho ?

As you do research you'll find there's not much you can do to make your tranny stronger. It's either eom or a $5000 liberty box. At 500hp, clearly this is overkill. The 3.9s are rated for 600whp so you're fine there but they're $1100... Just stay oem until something breaks. 99% of the time your axle will go before your tranny and it will happen when you launch on slicks. Preloading really helps prevent this

Re: Most Hp or stock tranny and axles
I thought 3.9 were under 600hp i could be wrong tho. and I'm assuming u mean drive shop axles. I found a set on inlinefour for up to 730whp i think for $700 I planned on running stock if it was possible. again what do you mean by preloading ? ? And as for the tranny i'm not spending 5000 lol I saw on jeff evans web site he has gears there but idk how much better than oem they are.

Yes, drive shaft shop. They make 475, 600 and 850hp axles. You said in your first post you're running 600hp. At that level just run OEM until you break something, your axles will go first I almost guarantee it.
Preloading helps take some of the shock out of the drive line like the clutch, axles, tranny and shocks.

Re: Most Hp or stock tranny and axles
preload= let the clutch out on the line until it starts to engage keep it there while holding the e-brake until you leave the line. This limits the shock on the transmission that you get when you just rev it up and drop the clutch from the floor.....just what i did the first time I went to the track with my turbo hatchback and i blew the transmission the 3 rd run on 17x7 nitto's leaving off the anti-lag.... b16a tranny with no lsd
