Most boost PSI from Airresearch T3
Since i wreked my turbo EJ8 I have my motor (d16y8) pulled and am going to build for more boost in my 96 hatch. I wondering how much boost psi I could get from an Airresearch T3 .42/.48 A/R. It was pushing 9psi daily fine and was wondering how much more i could get out of it without switching to something bigger. Im not looking for huge numbers just wanted to know what it was capable of producing. Any help would be appreciated.

Just from looking at the compressor map http://majesticturbo.com/20268.html, I'd have to say after a 2.5 pressure ratio (21psi). After that, it's dropping below 70% effeciency. In the real world, I'd be guessing after 18psi it'll be pushing mostly hot air.

so if i built my motor and ran in the neighborhood of 15 psi the turbo should perform fine?

Well get it tuned, while on the dyno you can find out where the power of the turbo falls off.. Mine was on a bone stock y7 motor btw..

do you think it stops making power due to the wastegate opening?

I would get rid of it annd go to at least a laarger T3, as with the Y8 your power is gonna fall on its face after 5-6k and if you have a turbo setup and your gonna pay for tuning, why dont you spend the extra money to have something that is small but kicks a little more ***? Wouldnt it be worth it?
Just my opinion…

Because it's a small turbo that dies out in the top end.

ive been doing some reading and i think im going to go with the T3 super 60. it seems like it can support my HP goals and will not break my bank.
