Really???

from searching "ls gsr tranny"

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1691666
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1572176

from searching "which tranny"

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1886643

Both searches limited to fi forum and with archived checked. They are all about which tranny for what type of driving. Nowhere in any of them does someone talk about one being weaker than the next. I wouldn't think either tranny is "more tuffer" than the other. I have never heard of nor seen any evidence of this either. But hey, I don't know $hit. I would say pick the tranny depending on what type of driving you do. Many people run good times and swear by a certain tranny. People run b16/itr, gsr AND ls trannies and haul a$$. It's a matter of preference for the most part. Do a search and limit it to the drag racing forum and you could probably find more threads about it. GL.

we all know the search function wont recognize "ls" because its only 2 characters.

to the op, by more tuffer i think you mean stronger, or better suited.

im not sure which one is stronger, i think they are very similar. as far as gearing goes, im personally using and ls transmission on my new setup which will be making between 400 and 450 hp

I know a guy at the track who blows LS trannys all the time too. He runs a sintered iron clutch, unopened used trannys (no prep work), and dumps the clutch at the line w/o preloading and has broken a few stainless steel shifters. In other words, he abuses the **** out of old trannys.

The key is preloading your tranny, not using worn synchros, and not trying to shift like it will take a full second off your times. The only real difference between GSR/LS trannys is the gearing, as far as drag racing is concerned. Not being able to get into a gear or poping out of a gear means your sychros & gears are worn to hell, not from gearing or different size shaft bearings.

i launched at 7200rpm dumped clutch minimal preloading on 22x8x13" slicks with 6psi in them, drove it like i stole it, on cable LS trans all last year. No problems with drivetrain.. Bent my endlinks on the radius rods of the traction bar.. That woulda been dangerous if it broke!!.

Luck has a big part to do with it as well.

im planning on using a ls cable tranny, 24-26 slicks,LSD,traction bar and hoping to make 650whp.... i dont feel that i have anything to worry about.

but it is like anything else it depends on how you abuse the part. driver and driving has alot to do with it

i do have alot of confidence in any transmission with the right driving no matter what whp it makes

True, but irrelevant.

To the OP. Like everyone has stated, depends on how you drive and what kind of driving you do. Do you prefer longer gears or shorter?? GL.

I thought the Diffs were stronger in the GSR's? I blew a few Diffs on LS Trannys with 200whp, 500whp on a GSR tranny and it seems to love it.

If you are having problems blowing gears pm racerstev here is a link to his profile.

https://honda-tech.com/zero...29070

He has heat treated my gears along with others and we have had no issues with blowing gears.

Ls and GSR gears are pretty identical in design. Ls gear are much longer...maybe causing longer loads on gears....causing them to break. Also GSR's have two piece syncros from 1st to 2nd...allowing for faster shifts and minimizing lock out during high RPM shift (which I had problems with)

Personally I think Ls gears are way to long for anything under 900WHP...but hey, what do I know!

People have blown GSR and Ls diffs and tranny's with stock motors...it's all in the driving habit. You drive hard...parts wont last long no matter how strong parts are...

...You can actuall heat treat them at home...give Liberty Gears a call...maybe they might tell you how....or just PM me.
