Mechanical vs Electrical Boost Gauge

Mechanical vs Electrical Boost Gauge
Which would be better, and why? I'm thinking about getting a turbo timer/boost gauge combo, but I heard mechanical is a lot more acurate. Is it true? Also, are autometer gagues any good? I'm kind of on a budget, so if autometer gauges (boost/egt/oil pressure) will suffice, I'll go with them. I'm only running 6psi.
Thanks,
Goldfingiz

i was always told that electronic boost gauges are always more accurate.
mechanical brands such as autometer were known for inaccurate gauges...
this what i was told by professionals. just relying the info to you...

Check out vdo guages. http://www.vdona.com They are backlick and inexpensive.

I wouldn't go for Autometer, they are POS. If u want decent gauges go for GReddy, Apexi or Defi gauges. Cost an arm and leg but worth it.

from my other post..
"in my opinion, both could be just as accurate/inaccurate.. both have sensors and readout. the better calibrated/built quality , the more accurate readings will be.
lets say fuel pressure, with mechanical, reading 43psi - it will fluctuate between 42.5-43.5.. average of 43psi.. with electrical, it will not move around as much, but will still read 43psi, its not like electrical will read 46psi just because it is.
Response time - Lets say you could tell the difference, lets talk about whats more important to get from gauges,
with .5 second delay you will still get reading that your oil/fuel/boost is changing - it will take seconds to react/process whatever you gotta do anyway. lets say you didn't see that happen - peak n hold will solve that problem. - that option will allow your setup to be more accurate.
tachometer is electrical gauge - and is important, you have experience using that in your car - and overall it gives decent readings so you can avoid errors.
i don't see any reason to run mechanical gauges, instead invest in a better quality gauge, just because its mechanical - doesn't mean it will read accurate."

Re: Mechanical vs Electrical Boost Gauge (vtec.dc2)
do not get an electronic boost gauge, i have the cobalt boost gauge and its electronic and it has a different volt reading than other gauges and it will mess sometimes, for instance it will say double or half of what it is supposed to .
if you are boosting 8psi and have 20 vac, it might not get a good signal and go to 10 vac all the time and show as much as 16psi which means your motor is still working correctly but its really annoying when it does this, you have to tap into the cruise control power wire or some sort of connection that is 6volt vs 12 volt

That is whack, but you could just get a voltage regulator...

sounds like u hafta pay an arm and a leg to me, but if u do get electric to prevent from having to route sources inside your interior
if you get the right kind of electric it is better... me im gonna get electric oil pressure, and mechanical boost

Re: (pissedoffsol)
Blitz makes one. I had one and it worked, however the boost display was digitial and its a bit difficult to see the boost rate of rise with just numbers jumping up.
