Default Manual vs. Electronic: Boost Controllers

What is the difference between manual and an electronic boost controller like the HKS evc5?
I always thought it was only for the "lazy" person.
I heard from someone that because of the difference in the wastegate's response to the boost controller, one could pick up midrange or low end power, which results in a lower quarter mile time. Is this true?
PS: I could care less if the car picks up "extra horsepower", unless it helps my quarter mile time.
Thanks.....

Most EBC can adjust the timing of the wastegate opening, in return will allow for quick spool times.
On the Greddy Profec B is called the "GAIN" button. Not sure for other EBCs.

The guy that's telling me this has had the Greddy Profed and the Apexi AVCR and says they're both ****. He said that the HKS is the only decent one.

Well most posts i have seen so far have the profec b and the apexi unit as top notch.
Just search "EBC" and read some responses from owners
I give the old school profec b a thumbs up.

The wastegate spring or MBC will start to open the valve as soon as some pressure is built up in the system and fully open (flutter to keep boost) when full boost is reached. An EBC will wait until the very last second to open the wasteagate. The advantage are 2 fold in my mind. One, you WILL gain low boost power and spool up time because all the exhaust gas is directed to the turbo. Secondly if your tires like to spin on higher boost levels then you can do like I will and run lower PSI in first and second gear and click a button to higher boost in 3rd to 5th, so you get maximum traction while keeping your foot planted. This will obviously result in quicker 60ft and quarter mile times, but how quick is a guess. Maybe only .1 maybe up to .7 seconds......anyone?

I say EBC if you have $200 bucks and MBC if you don't have too many traction problems or run only lower boost

im not sure if this is true or no, but its my understanding an ebc can elmiinate creeping and spiking. On my greddy 15g when i run 10 psi on my mbc, it likes to creep up a couple psi(nothin major), would an ebc such as greddy profec type s or type a fix this problem? thats the impression i was given and would like to know if there is any truth to it. Sorry to steal your thread turbogsr, but just tryin to get further info between ebc/mbc

MBC's work, and EBC's sometimes work.

its really a trade off, i had a mbc, it wasn't constant with the boost pressure, when the temperatures get warm, the boost pressure would be off, now i have a sbc-id from blitz, and man, that thing works like a dream

well i guess i'm lazy cuz i love my ebc. it's just so simple. If i want to run 10lbs i push the button to 10lbs, if i want to run 20lbs i push the button to 20. hell a few of the ebc's have features like gear dependent boost, and timed boost.

ok... its an aquarium pressure valve that will only increase boost 10psi over the spring rate

I think the question has been answered but I just wanted to add I will never get rid of my Blitz SBC i-D. Well, maybe for an Innovative MSBC-1
