maintaining a SC
I hear people argue back and forth about reliability over turbo and superchargers. It seems I will never find a straight answer. JR claims they have a supercharger that requires no maintanence. Is this true? What goes into maintaining a supercharger, and in your opinion, turbo or SC?
we'll the only thing i could think of as far as maintence is changing the blower oil every 50k or so. you can get the castor bean oil from a local GM dealer. I forget the part #. they should know what your talking about, same oil they use for there blowers
The Eaton blowers used by JR are internally lubricated, sealed, and not end user serviceable. They are also warranted for 100,000 miles and will in most cases outlive the car. I hear some complain that belt slippage can be a problem. I have had no issues with my Goodyear belts slipping. Other than that, there's always regular maintenance of the car, changing copper spark plugs regularly, keeping an eye on the oil, nothing different than having a turbo.
The most important things about boost regardless of the means is ADEQUATE FUEL DELIVERY AND PROPER TUNING.

My belt slipped one time at the track. Is the goodyear belt any good? Where did you find the belt?

The only maintenance required for a sc is changing out a pulley every year to increase the boost.
Seriously though, I have a jrsc on my ITR and I love it. I'm sure you've read most of the arguments, but since you asked, I'll still give you my opinion.
Turbos produce higher peak horsepower.
Sc's produce more low end torque.
Turbo lag can be eliminated by using a smaller turbo, but the smaller turbo will not produce the highest peak HP.
Some people say that turbos are cheaper. I don't know for sure. If you buy from the H-T classifieds you can find sc's pretty cheap. If you try to be TOO cheap with either system you will have problems.
You hear about more problems with turbos, but that could be because more guys are using turbos than sc's, and most of the turbo guys are running more than the 6 to 10 psi available on sc's.
Sc's are easier and cheaper to install.
The jrsc requires no maintenance, but I doubt that the belts will last 100,000 miles. I had to replace one when I added a stepper pulley. It looked pretty cracked and worn after just 25K miles, but they are cheap to replace, and I have never had any problem with slippage.
You can "dial up" the boost much easier on a turbo.
You can intercool a turbo much easier than a sc.
I've heard that turbos quiet down the exhaust. This makes sense in theory, but every turbo car I have seen has been loud as F**K!

Hey, I'm new to the forum and I have a 97 Honda Prelude SS H22 as well, i was thinking of getting a jrsc but concerned about belt slippage and power. Is there a lag when u start of the line? Is the power gain noticeable? have you had any problems with the gatorback belts? tranny? and lastly....If u dont mind, could you tell me the codes for the goodyear gatorback belts?
