MAF sensor
so i was wonderin....i have not seen this done before
flow is so important on our turbo setups.....i have been on the dyno before...with problems ......boost was holdin fine at 15psi...but the power band was droppin fast up top....it was a settin with boost controller....if i had a flow meter....it would of been found fast
so my question is.......can you take a stock MAF....maybe off a gay mustang...and make a gauge or display for it.....i know some of you are software/firmware people so.....i know it should be possible....has it been done before
pretty much i'm looking for a gauge that will show flow in CFM....i was thinkin usin a stock MAF would work and maybe be cheap......so lemma know what u guys think

Re: MAF sensor (lucidvtec)
this is what i think and i dont have data to back it up but i think you can get it from this.
at a certain point, usually w.o.t. it goes into open loop anyway, i dont think that a MAF can read the ammount of air that we push through it. i could be wrong. but i dont think it is pheasable.

Re: MAF sensor (boostedcivicsir)
Well thats why people switch to speed density(MAP) sensors when getting really high in the power range. Most MAFs can't read that kind of flow, so to get one to do so, costs a small fortune while a 5bar map sensor is $100+ and a 1bar map sensor(N/A guys) is essentially free.
As far as the MAF sensor idea goes. It should be relatively easy to implement. find a MAF sensor. Find out what voltage = how much air flow. Send the voltage out to your datalogging program, and monitor the sensor. You could plug it in where the wideband would go if need be. Ive thought about doing something like this, but I'm lazy and poor.

Re: MAF sensor (nowtype)
The voltage in is calibrated as well with heated-wire type MAFs as far as I know. I'm not sure about flapper door, etc. Might need some kind of a controller. Flow is generally measured by resistance of a heated wire, so the heat of the wire is very important to be controlled precisely... or known precisely...

so i guess first thing i would need to find is a MAF that can handle like what 80cfm.....that has a 2.5 - 3" opening....then i will have to find its lowest voltage and peak voltage..

under WOT conditions, the MAF signal is ignored, as is the OXS, and the table goes to full-on...
masked- are you sure that's with a stock MAF? They're only like 70mm or so, IIRC..
I know alot of guy that run big numbers in the GM cars, and all of them that I know, go with a larger MAF (90mm+) or convert to SD.
