LS/VTEC overheating or normal
I have a ls vtec freshly built with a half-size aluminum radiator and slim fan.
The thing is : the temp comes to 212 F when on highway after 20 minutes of driving and stays somewhere there. the fan works but doesnt seem to have much effect.
when I just had the LS with the same radiator, there was no such problem and the car never hit 200 F on highway driving.
What can be the problem ?

did you try replacing the thermostat? That's a pretty dangerous temperature to be cruising at...my car goes in to limp mode if it crosses somewhere around 205*
If the thermostat is ok, maybe try a quick compression test to see if your HG isn't leaking. I personally wouldn't drive it like that for long...might warp the head if it creeps up much higher.

Re: LS/VTEC overheating or normal
is the bottom end block the same ls bottom end block you were running before?
I would think thermostat, water pump, or radiator and I would change them in that order. Make surefan is spinning the right Way with the blades

the bottom end is the same..
I changed the thermostat, it's the same..
my headgasket is from the Golden Eagle ls vtec kit, and there isnt a leak..
I'll try the water pump..
the fan also sucks..
is it OK if I put another fan from the front ?

Re: LS/VTEC overheating or normal
my car tries to overheat too, 94integra. the car can idle in 72+degree weather and will fluctuate from 179-182(fan kicks on then goes back to 179) and never overheat, but if after letting it idle and get in it and drive it up the road for about 9 minutes itll reach 220 then i would have to bring it home and let it idle then the temps will drop?

The fan sucks, are you mocking it or does the fan pull air sucking it ?
Are you sure it's not wired backwards? Or the blades are backwards?

Re: LS/VTEC overheating or normal
i was having an issue last year similar to yours. hre are the bunch of quick things i did to help( and it has too it was 86 outside today and my coolant stayed put on 194.
heatwrapped manifold and downpipe
propped the back of the hood up a bit with some washers to let some hot air out
drilled four 1/4" holes in the thermostat.
all have worked like a charm

Re: LS/VTEC overheating or normal
put the stock fan back on with the shroud, if it doesnt call for a slim fan then put your stocker back on. a fan with a shroud will cool better than a 10-12 slim fan with out one.

Had the same problem, but not as hot as yours. Bought this fan and all my hot temps worries went away.
