Lowering VTEC, going even lower
I was setting up my boost controller last night after filling up on 100 unleaded which only cost $1 more than 93. I was looking over my logs at home and noticed how fast the boost picked up after vtec engaged. I have it set at 4200 on the test log, I am going to try 3500rpm and see where that takes me.

anyone go lower than 3500 ?

yea we have played with mine at all sorts of diff spots. It seemed like 4500 ish was the best, but it was a pita on the highway so we upped it a little.
Lower 4k range and under will engage and disengage funky and cause some jerkiness.
My opinion would be to keep it higher. But at least test it on the dyno to see how the changes affect power/tw/afr ect

Higher than 3500 but less than 4000 ? I guess I will find out when I lower it to 3500 and then raise it 5000 and overlay the graphs. In the picture the line labeled "C" I am 6.7 psi @ 4000 rpm. You can see how fast it pics up once vtec is engaged. This GT30R is a very fast spooling turbo. I thought I might get more power by letting in more air since it is ready.

With the AEM I can choose not to have vtec engage based on load, so the jerky on and off wont be a problem, I know what you mean though I had hondata before.
I will be on the dyno in the next week or two, I have to experiment with raising the timing and boost, but I don't think I will waste any dyno time on VTEC engagement since its not that important to me.

i think thay with a really nice turbo like the gt30R it would be okay with a slightly lower vtec engagement.
BUT
with some of the larger, slower spooling turbos and especially NON ball bearing turbos, the lag from them plus the early vtec engagement at low speeds would be a hinderence.
i have tried it with my turbo and all it seems to do is bog like a champ...........

its not soo much the turbo I am referring to. Its that the vtec just has choppy engagement too low. Do to oil pressure I am assuming? Its hard to explain. Try it and see. I can tell you from experience, none of the vtec cars i have been in liked it.

oooops didnt see you have the vtec load engagement option. I think the newer Hondatas have that too.

Yes they do. My s200 is set only to crossover if the motor is in boost. It's nice.
