Loud Fluttering
I have an ls turbo motor with a deltagate waste gate. When I am on it hard it used to flutter. It has gotten much louder in the past few weeks. Does anyone know what this could be?
Nope the boost is fine. Stays steady. Performace still seems normal. But the noise is getting louder. I just do not want to be harming something. My one friend told me my wastegate sucks and I should buy a Tial. So I do not know if it is just a normal noise the wastegate makes. Trying to budget a new one in.
Okay just ran out to the garage and checked the bolts on the top. They were not loose but i was able to tighten them alittle less then a quarter of a turn each. ANy other suggestions. How about my bov should that be set to harder. Will that help the situation?
just becasue you are listening to it more, that might be why you think its getting louder. i remember mine was loud and the more i payed attention to it the louder i thought it was.

I'm curious about this too, though I have the Tial wastegate (@.45 bar). When I hit full boost the noise coming from it is a fluttering, flapping, clicking (?) type of noise. Boost stays constant and the turbo's performing well. Is this the noise I should be hearing?
Interesting so the tial does it also? I would have been mad pissed if I went out and bought the tial and it still made the noise. Have to tell my friend that one. But all in all the tial is a better piece correct?
Okay test drove the car into work today. The fluttering has been reduced a little bit by tighting the bolts on the wastegate. Any other suggestions?
This may help...if the sound you are hearing sounds like two pieces of plastic rubbing onto one another....kinda like if you dragged plastic fast onto another piece of plastic....this is detonation. You may wanna turn down the boost, turn back your timing or use a higher octane fuel. If this isnt it you may wanna check all the exhaust joints especially the donut gasket to cat. Under pressure and or movement depending on the way it was joined(custom downpipes arent always made very well ,angle to cat)) , it may actually be a tiny leak. Look under the car for black coming out the side of all gaskets.
Okay since you said about black around the gasket here is a good question for you. I have an aem ems in my car. When I start it up in the morning it is rich until it warms up no problem. But when I drive it and then jump on it, it will blow out a big *** cloud of black smoke then is good for the rest of the drive. My exhaust tip is always black like it is running to rich. It always runs around the middle of Stoch. Could this be b/c the ems was tuned for 14 psi and I am only running around on the low boost setting of 7? I always run 93 octane so I am not sure if I have detonation. Thanks for you help.
look for black **** on the head, the block, the IC piping, where the cat meets the downpipe (or where the test pipe meets the downpipe) see if there is black anywhere...this means *duh* exhaust leak. I had an exhaust leak onto my head, did the same thing...
