Default Looking for troubleshooting ideas

Hi all,

So I go to start my turbo charged D16Z6 after sitting for a winter. It runs like ****, and dies immediately. So I start checking for issues, I find the timing has jumped by a tooth. So I reset the timing belt, and check compression to see I don't have any bent valves, 180# on the dot for every cylinder. So I assume I lucked out there. Still doesn't run worth crap. I have checked spark and fuel pressure, all look great. It starts and runs rough, but will keep going if I flutter it, so I assume the injectors are working.

Car ran when I parked it.

Just looking for some other spots I should look into that would cause it to run like ****, when it has compression, spark, and fuel pressure. It's gotta be something dumb, just running out of ideas. Next I am gonna see if I can get any info off my NepTune module, but first I gotta get my old maps and such off my old computer.

Thanks for your time everyone,
Matt

How long was it sitting?

How do the plugs look? Rich? Oil?

How old is the gas?

Spark plugs attached in the right order?

Did you remove anything when it was left parked?

It sat for a winter, no more than 8 months. It seems really rich. I checked the plug order, but I will double/triple check.

Did you drain the gas tank?

I had a similar problem with a DSM I used to own back in the day. EVERYTHING checked out to be good. I sold it to another guy and he couldn't figure it out either and sold it as well. The third guy to own it just for ***** and giggles threw a fuel pump at it and it solved the problem. Everything fuel wise checked out but it was like the pump was shorting out under load? Would start like crap but would still run if you tapped the throttle, it would even drive (barely).

The conditions were similar to yours being that it ran fine when parked but something like 8 months later trying to run it getting similar results.

I would drain the tank and flush the fuel system/replace the fuel filter. there's no doubt in my mind that the fuel is bad and no doubt full of moisture.

8 months sitting? Dump it. I drained 3 gallons of gas out of my car then filled the tank with fresh gas before I even attempted to start it up. Bad gas is just nasty to run

exactly how much is the AFR at full load? If its reach consult a chip tuner. If its lean do the folowing:

unplug the fuel line from fuel rail and turn the engine to check (not start) untill fuel tank drains. make sure you use a can for the fuel. Keep the old fuel for cleaning metalic parts.

install new fuel and fuel filter and check again the AFR. if it is lean (above 14-1 at full load-throttle) check fuel pressure. If pressure is ok (above 50psi after 3000rpm), clean the injectors. If fuel pressure is below 35psi replace the fuel pump.

If still problem remains you must send the car to a mechanic and if he cant do enything than to your chip tuner.
