Default legality of turbocharging

I plan to purchase and install a Drag GenIII kit and was wondering what happens if you get caught with that stuff under the hood.

{rant on}

Please don't ask what the legality of a turbo kit is. You already know the answer, unless it has CARB certification, it is 100% totally illegal and punishable by $25,000 in fines and possible prison time by Federal law. The EPA b**tards don't know their A's from a hole in the ground so they say any tampering with emmisions control systems is punished. That means, FMU's=illegal, KN filters on valve covers=illegal, catch cans=illegal, standalone engine mangement=illegal, even 5 point harnesses=illegal. If it isn't part of the original car or DOT certified it is illegal by federal law. That just pisses me off. If you get caught by a ref in Cali, be prepared to remove the kit and pay a fine.

that is just like the laws here in louisiana. it states any mod to your exhaust system to enhance the sound over what the vehical came with is illegal. NO MATTER HOW MUCH LOUDER IT IS. that is just ******* stupid.

Just a question, but how do companies get approved to be legal by CARB? Can anyone get approved as long as they can check out the setup?

I'm glad I live in Wisconsin. It may be illegal to mod your car, but, cops have never asked me to pop the hood. If they see you racing, they give you a 6 point/$284 racing ticket.

Passing emissions is also not as difficult here as it probably is in all of your more popular states.
