Just can't decide (On an engine for boost)
Okay, my goal is 350 whp. I know I'll have to do build the block and head, but I would do that anyway. The LS seems to be cheaper at first, but then you figure in an extensive p&p job, new intake manifold, GSR crank girdle and various other acoutrements. The GSR would be a more expensive option at first, but I think it could give me the power I'm looking for more easily.
I haven't even begun to decide which car this is going in (EG, EK, EF, DC2, del Sol?), I'm just focusing on the motor. Opinions? I've done a search, just hasn't turned up anything conclusive.

Re: Just can't decide (Silock)
I've had every B series engine in one of my cars except for the B18C5 and B17 and I'm of the opinion that for all around power, the B18C1 is the best base.

1.6L Delsol DOHC vtec. I think thats the B16A. Its cheaper than GSR and easier to find. 350whp non sleeved with forged internals.
Delsol ownz you y0!

Re: Just can't decide (SO3Burner)
What mods are needed for a 350 whp B16A?!?!?!? Non-sleeved? Are you sure?
I'd really prefer the torque of the B18, but I'd also like to be able to really rev the B16. So, I dunno.
How hard ARE GSR swaps to find?

Re: Just can't decide (Silock)
I know a friend who is selling a gsr long block if you're interested, IM me. As for the motor/car I'm in the same boat as you right now, I think I've decided to go ls/vtec or b20/vtec in a eg hatch (cx). This way the car is light as hell and still newer looking, and the motor should hit around 200hp with good tq numbers (unlike b16's) and engine can be turbo'd later when I'm ready to go all out. But this is just my opinion...

For 350whp, a GSR motor with built bottem end, stock head, good turbo kit, and good fuel management should get the job done pretty nicely.. LS's can do it too though.

Andrew, it's Eric from St. Louis. If you would want a b16 I will sell the one outta my Si. I have Siracer's old block sleeved and assembled right now, but I am waiting for several other things before I boost it or even put it in. Interested?

get a h22 or h23 prelude motor
but remember if you do this in anything other then a prelude, kiss your handling goodbye.

Re: Just can't decide (Boosted Ego)
I have had both the ls and b16a in my hatch. I have made well over 300whp on my stock internal b16a, it can be done, but engine management and tuning are critical. Right now i have a built b16a, consisting of stock sleeves, 11:1 compression and built head. I rev to 9000rpm, having my powerband start at a little over 3000rpm. I am starting over again with an entirely new set-up (Geoff's racing manifold, 60-1, etc) and should be able to hit 400whp on 12lbs. Keep in mind i will have the powerband from hell, not 3000rpm of all hell breaking loose. I personally like to rev my engine when driving it hard, I dont mind the lack of torque, and having a b16a swap in an eg hatch with a turbo kit is all you need to knock on 12's. Turn up the boost, get slicks and run race gas you are into the 11's...depending upon driver. For the availability, and price of the b16a engines, they are my choice for a boosted motor.
