Default JRSC & Turbo

I bought a T3/T04E turbo setup with the intention of replacing my JRSC setup. But after reading about the Meguiars Type-R that runs a similar turbo and sc together, I started to wonder whether it would be possible on my setup.

Do any of you know anyone who has done this, or have any technical info that would be useful?

If you want to do something like this for god's sake please get a standalone engine management system that is very programmable because no stock maps are going to cope with the requirements of near instant boost and very high intake temperatures.

That said... if you're going to buy a standalone anyway you'll most likely have a better vehicle if you sell the JRSC and use the money to build up your engine a bit and buy a standalone ECU for the turbo and get it tuned right.

hks did it for their project car but they also retarded the timing all the way to dyno the car. i dont even think they can drive the car on the street

I have a Hondata 4B and plenty of FI experience, just curious to whether this has been done. Could it be as easy as plumbing the turbo into the SC.

The article I read said that the Meguiars Type-R is completely streetable and will be the basis for the new HKS twin charged bolt-on kit, I guess it couldnt have been that bad.

It shouldn't matter, all you need to do is plumb your IC output through the SC. Any and all fuel and ignition management systems just read boost from the manifold so they should be able to adapt accordingly. Just back your timing off a bit and run rich until you figure out where your intake temps are going. I don't see any reason not to try.

The problem I see is this: a turbo is a relatively efficient compressor if it's properly matched to your car. A JRSC is by comparison less efficient. If you run your turbo through the JRSC you're limiting its efficiency by only allowing it to flow as much air as the JRSC is willing to pass through it... to me this means that between the turbo and SC you could actually have higher pressures than you think, meaning your turbo is heating the air more than it would normally, and then you're pumping it through your SC and heating it even more. IMO you're lucky to even break even with a well-tuned turbo setup.

Its totally doable, just install the IC piping right to the throttle body. Tuning is a nightmare but with the Hondata it should be sweet .. As far as intake temps are concerned, Ive had good luck using a NOS single fogger wet setup with like a 20HP shot in it, Ive recorded 48 degree drops in temp at full boost. If you dont want to rebuild every season i dont reccomend this.

Definitely possible. In fact, you could have a very streetable version of something like that if you fabricated your own intake manifold that bypassed the JRSC charge after a certain PSI (say 8 or so). As long as you don't force the turbo charge through the blower unit, it won't even know the turbo is there.

Can someone scan in the Integra that has this system and email it to me at colb@phaice.com?

I'd like to see that. Also, what is the HKS twin-charge setup you're referring to?

Twin charging on cars has been around for ages over here. HKS Japan has been selling Toyota AE86 (hachi roku) Twin charger kits since '90. HKS Japan made a demo car a couple years ago that used the over priced C's charger, a small T25G turbo and an HKS F-CON V to control fuel and IG. The only problem with the JRSC/turbo setup is the SC is mounted directly to the intake manifold resulting in the inability to cool the charge.
