JDM GSR GETTING BOOSTED TURBO HELP
Hey i got a buddy who is getting his gsr boosted. He is getting rebuilt with all oem internals EXCEPT 81mm wiseco 9.7-10.2 pistons and eagle rods. His set up includes inlinepro ss manifold, blox intake manifold, greddy type s bov, arp headstuds, walbro 255, rc 750 high impendance, and 2.5 piping with 400hp jdm sport intercooler. he want over 300 whp( as high as he can get while keeping it safe) but also want to have a fairly long life on the motor, also he is going to be buying a 3bar omnipower map sensor. Is the Garrett t3/t4 50 trim, or t3/t4 57 trim best for his goals. it will be a daily drived and he wants as little lag as possible with the best powerband. how much boost will he be able to safely run on these turbos because the sleeves are stock. please give your input and reasons as to why you believe what u do. thx in advace. lmk any other variables you would need to know to make informed decisions. oh and hes running a tial 38mm wastegate. would a profec b help his raise boost levels? what options r available

what rod is he using? and reliability does not matter about psi. its the more power he makes the faster it wears out.

Yea still want to know how to set up like a high and low boost setting. He want a normal driving setting and a higher psi setting for race. Anyone with knowlede and or experience with the 50 trim chime in.

A straight t3 would give at least 350 whp? 380 or 400 would be an ideal number if the sleeves could actually handle that

Re: JDM GSR GETTING BOOSTED TURBO HELP
What was the silly question? I was confirming what was suggested in a previous post, but yeah he's an older dude from my job whom I told I would find out for him because I know there is alot of people with good intel here. But let's try to stay on The topic pls. What turbo would be best suited for the build and number he wishes to reach.

I think the 50 trim is a good choice. He needs to keep in mind that his fmic is rated for 400hp at the flywheel, not the wheels. So his whp goal should be around 350-370, unless he decides to upgrade the fmic. Run as much boost as it takes to make the power. Tuning is the most critical part of the build. Get something with boost by gear capabilities.

Re: JDM GSR GETTING BOOSTED TURBO HELP
Tell your "older" friend to open an account here and post for himself. These "tech by proxy" questions are really non-productive. The friggin' turbo should have been the FIRST thing he should have looked into. Not the last. Your "friend's" build strategy is ***-backwards.
If you must insist on building this way why don't you tell your "friend" to hop over to the Garrett website for instance? All the specs for every turbo is listed right there.
These tired questions of asking "will this turbo/which turbo can handle X power" are about as tired as "What do I need to boost my engine" questions.

Wow someone here is really upset, but anyways to all those who gave input thx. The turbo can be selected after without effecting the build negatively all I was trying to find out a good selection for his build and what he's trying to do. No need to go bash. So feel free to ignore this thread since u find it to be a problem

Re: JDM GSR GETTING BOOSTED TURBO HELP
dont see how redundent it is to ask for people utd experiences with their turbo set ups. there are various facts about the 57 trim and 50 trim turbo on the gsr that does not mean its conclusive on which is better for a street build. i guess its an opiniated matter where i would like to hear opinions on how people feel about each and which would yeild the best power for powerband. also just checkin spec for turbos on garrett does not give u much info as to how the turbo will react on a b16 b18 or b18c for that matter. so if u have no experience or knowledge u want to offer in this thread please leave it be.
