JDM b18c build, maybe???
hello,
I have the oppurtunity to buy a JDM b18c block that needs new sleeves for $75. Is this a good deal? or would I be better off trying to find a different engine? my goal is to build up an engine that can easily handle 20psi from a turbo without ever developing the dreaded rod knock. any suggestions? should I buy this block? thanks

well from what ive read sleeving can be very very expensive. last i saw someone said they spent $900 for the sleeves alone, not the installation. it would also make it easier for people to stear you in the right direction if you gave a hp goal rather than psi. psi doesnt hurt anything other than causing the head to lift, its the power made from the boost that brakes things. 20psi on a 16g is completely different than 20psi on an sc61. find a hp goal and maybe a budget and we can point you in the best direction for your needs.
my hp goal is 300hp, although I would prefer 350-400hp if my budget can handle it. my price range for the the engine is between $1000-2000, without the turbo or trans ecu ect. is this possible from a honda engine? how much power can I get for that? of course, I would like to spend as little as possible! I saw a b20b complete jdm for a little over $530, would I be better off with that? the engine will go into either a del sol, or a crx.

You dont need sleeves for what your tryna get... But to answer your original question...
Thats a good deal if you gonna get it sleeved... There are reputable companies making sleeves for less than $900...
Best and most cost effective solution is to buy a good running GSR and just piece together a cheap kit...

i personally would buy an ls motor. why buy a gsr when they cost more and the ls is completely capable of putting down what he wants on a good turbo setup and stock motor, with good comp and leakdown numbers of course. dont get me wrong the gsr would be nice as well but he doesnt want to spend more than he has to to get that hp why not go ls? with headstuds and good turbo set up,300-350 is not hard to reach.
I am thinking about getting the block and having it sleeved, but I cant find any sleeves less than $1000, which is too much cause I can buy an engine for that. Is it possible to get new sleeves and have them installed for $500 or am I just dreaming?

gsr's can be quite nasty but i just said ls because they are cheaper and they are easily capable of his goal. thats like only wantin 200 hp and gettin the block sleeved! its just not necessary. now if his goal were higher than 3 than definately somethin better
i personally havent seen sleeves for anywhere near that. like i said before sleeves are very expensive and for your goal it isnt necessary. just buy a fresh ls for at the most $500 and get a decent turbo and you can hit your goal easily!
