Default How To Wire Two Step W/ Nitrous

Hello, I have a msd digital 6 plus w/ 2 step rev limiter. I am using a microedge controller for nitrous activation of two stages. Is there a safe way to wire in the 2 step so that I can hold full throttle on the line without activating the nitrous? For some reason I just cant come up with a good way to do this.

the easy way would be to put a switch on the floor that is activated by the gas pedal only when its pushed to the floor. your two-step will work without full throttle. hold throttle at 3/4 while on two step and as soon as you let the clutch out put the gas pedal to the floor.

i'm sure that's not what you want, but just an idea.

what engine management software are you using? you could use a GPO to activate the nitrous after it sees some MPH from the VSS.

That is an easy alternative, and that would work. But I dont know if I would call it safe. Forget not to put the pedal to the floor and BOOM knock knock pop.

Im actually building the car right now and havent decided on what ems. But using the vss is a very interesting idea

I also should say Im not real sure how to wire the two step to begin with. It works when 12v is applied to the wire and then back to normal when you take the 12v away. I dont want to hold a button or anything to activate the two stage so should I mount a switch on the clutch or something???

i use a clutch switch, activation button, and a double pole relay (MSD 8960). See figure 6 http://www.msdignition.com/uploadedF...structions.pdf

if i push in the clutch, then press button, the 2-step is set. i do not have to hold button, just keep clutch pressed in. when i release the clutch, the 2-step is deactivated and will not come back on until i have the clutch depressed and hit the button.

or you can supply 12v to your ebrake switch if you plan to use the ebrake for preloading the drivetrain.

Thank you that is very helpful.

Could I run a double pole relay connected to the clutch switch so that when I push the clutch pedal down it supplies 12 volts to my msd 2 stage, then when I take my foot off the clutch the relay completes my nitrous circuit in line with my full throttle switch.
That would keep anything bad from happening if I accidentally pushed the gas down all the way.

Also on a different topic since you brought it up should I be using the e-brake to put a load on the drivetrain. My 60 foot times are really bad. Do you use a line lock on the rear? I have just been trying to feel out the clutch on my launch and its not working real well.

i used to use the ebrake. now i use a staging brake. no line lock. either use ebrake or stage brake to lock up the rears, then slip clutch until you feel it grab a little. takes practice, but you'll get it.

don't think the clutch to the retard is going to work. the microedge should be triggering the retard on the MSD when it turns on the nitrous. those two things should be turned on at the same time.

WOOOPS, I meant to say two step not retard. Please reread what I wrote its corrected now.

Isn't a staging brake the same as a rear line lock?

Here is a diagram I drew up of how I am going to wire up my 2 step rev limiter. Wiring it this way will not allow nitrous activation when two step is engaged. It is pretty simple.

NO=normally open.. NC= normally closed.. C=common

Let me know if anything doesnt seem right.

is the nitrous controller supplying the 12v to pin 9? if not then that side of the relay will never see voltage.

Pins 7 and 9 were reversed. How does it look now?

7 and 9 are normally closed so nitrous will be armed unless clutch is depressed activating two stage.
Correct?

The way I see it working is pin 1 recieves 12 volts ignition on voltage. when clutch is depressed it closes the clutch switch providing the ground and energizing the relay coil.
When the coil is energized that will connect terminals 4 and 2 and activate the 2 step function by supplying 12 volts to the msd two step wire. also it would disconnect pins 7 and 9 disabling nitrous activation. when I release the clutch it opens the clutch switch which disconnects pins 4 and 2 disabling the 2 step, and connects 7 and 9 which are normally open and allows nitrous activation. Does that sound right?

Thanks for your help with this. Looks like we got it figured out now.

Could we touch on the staging brake idea again. First off who makes them were could I get one. Also what is the price range.

What does it do exactly. Is it similar to a line lock in that you push the brake, then activate the solonoid and it holds pressure to the rear brakes until the solenoid is de-energized?

After reading this I decided what I would like to do. Just not quite sure how to go about it

I wanna just use the e-brake as my staging brake. BUT....

I dont want it to rachet and lock in place. Don't want to have to push the button to release.

Do they make anything to disable the push button on the crx E-brakes?

I guess I could just take it apart and remove the racheting lever. but then I couldnt use it for parking. hmmmm.....

yup, its called an angle grinder. hahaha i ground the teeth off the lower portion. set the ebrake pretty firm and then grind off the teeth below where the ratchet is holding.

Now that is freakin genius. Crude... but genius.

This way I can still use it for parking. Sweet!

if you pull the e-brake handle a little forward it won't lock.
