internal wastegate question
okay i am getting a 14b turbo for my z6 and i want to know how do u really know what psi ur wastegate is set at are there markings of some kind or do u have to use a boost controller or what, i plan on getting a boost controller soon but wuld like to run really safe untuned so nothing happens to the block cause it has stock internals, i would plan on running 8 psi max 6 daily driven.\
thanks in adnvance

Re: internal wastegate question (Soccerking3000)
well, first it doesn't really matter what the WG is set at because you can loose varying amounts of pressure on the way to the combustion chamber.
sometimes if the WG is set for 8 for example the engine may only see 6 because of the intercooler and other flow restricitons.
first thing - get a boost gauge!
a boost controller can only INCREASE the boost from it's base pressure. If you need to turn it down you need to change the amount of force the WG actuator applies to the swing valve. one way is to change the length of the actuator rod, either by bending it or screwing it in and out if it is threaded.
Another option, which is easily reversible, is to use a spring to pull the swing valve arm open and assist the actuator. There are lot of other ways but i think the spring is the best because it doesn't require any permanent changes unless you have the threaded style (which i don't think 14bs came with).
whatever you do I bet the stock WG setting will be fine as long as you give it more fuel under boost.
