you would need tinker to put an external flange on your mani.

or un bolt the internal and get a new flapper.

I would get the external though, miles ahead of internals.

That turbine housing is not normal at all, that is far from a standard 5 or 4 bolt housing. The wastegate actuator is mounted on the tubine housing itself and seems to have the linkage inside of the housing which is very strange. There may acutally be a flapper behind that plate because the side of that housing seems to protrude out an inch or so more than normal. Its possible that plate is covering up an opening that the flapper is in which would make it look similar to a t25 housing like dsm's use. The bolt pattern for the downpipe itself looks like a standard 4 bolt spacing but no guarantees it lines up the same. Did you show Tinker these pics?

Heres a pic of a dsm housing, different layout of course, just to give an idea of what i think may be behind the plate. Basically if theres a hole behind the plate then you need an external. If theres a flapper in an opening like this you may be able to use it.

ok ok.... i understand everythingyou said in the last two posts, and have already decided thats what it was.

so the real question now is.... if i leave the plate on does it block the internal wastegate. IE i could use an external.

because that is what i would like to do.

any one know this answer.

when i took it out of the vovol('83) i swear there was an external wastegate, but now i am second guessing myself and all. but it is pretty important for tinker to know, lol.

so any one who knows for sure help me out here.

Yeah, if you dont hook a vaccuum line up to the actuator the flapper will not open and you can use and external instead. The plate makes sure nothing leaks through.
