Default Intercooler vs. Radiator

Hey guys, I'm just trying to do some newbie research, I tried searching however I didn't really find anything. At what kind of HP, the PSI your turbo's running, etc will you absolutely need an intercooler when you have a turbo. Is there a certain point in which you should invest in an intercooler, especially if you have a stock engine? What's the rule of thumb? Thanks.

i say any turbocharged honda setup should run an intercooler. if you're not going to use all the components commonly used on a setup, don't boost. used intercoolers are out there, brand name or from factory turbocharged cars

If price is the factor then get a side mount, a dsm is like 30 bux...

Stock Greddy kits don't come with an intercooler and I've heard of people running them for a long time like that without one... but they are only at like 5.5psi...

I would say that there is not some kind of magical limit at which your engine will blow up, because lots of people run JRSCs that push 9psi+ without an intercooler, and those things are really heating the intake charge...

I personally would never run a turbo without an intercooler, even at the same boost level adding an intercooler will increase the horsepower because of the cooler intake charge temp, so why not run one? Especially because you can pick them up for so cheap!

If I decide to swap an H22a in my 01' Accord I was considering a turbo, however I only have like 1k right now and that's going towards suspension. I hate being 18 and having no money . I wish I could boost.

the dark side is strong in you! We know you will convert

If you wanna go by rule of thumb, I'd say no more the 7PSI on asmall turbo and 5-6PSI on a big one. your tune will need to be very good. Like someone said, for how cheap IC's are you can pic one up and install it fairly easily, you should.

i'd pretty much always recommend using a FMIC whenever possible. Just think about it, by using one you help the intake charge drop in temp which means more power at the same level of boost....plus they look cool
