Default intercooler mounting question

This might be a dumb question, but can i mount my intercooler upside down? I took a pic a min ago, but i didn't have much light (only a flashlight). btw, its the streetimport ic that was sold in this thread: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=774709 The reason i want to mount it like this is that the piping would hit my bumper so i'd have to cut even more off of what i already have.

You can mount the intercooler anyway you want. As long as both inlet and outlets are the same, there's not inlet/outlet.

both inlet/outlets are 2.5" so it wouldn't matter then right?

you can mount it upside down or backwards or whatever... it'll work the same which ever way you decide to mount it.

I don't know what you mean by "upside down" but I can tell you that you sure as hell do not want to mount it the way it is in the picture. It's a FMIC, not a cow-catcher.

lol.. i'll post up better pics tomorrow. Upside down meaning flipped over from the pics of it online. I really dont want to mess with cutting my bumper support b/c then i have to cut up more of my bumper to get air to the ic. Not mention i'll have to remount the mounting points on the ic to match up with the frontend of my car With the ic mounted this way it'll be easier to do the ic piping too.

if you dont want to mess with cutting your bumper and stay with how you have it (upside down), you will need a 4inch lift kit to just drive the thing.

well you dont really need to hack the bumper support off...thats to much work. Just unbolt them. That way you can fit the IC up higher with out it hanging so low. Altho im not exactly sure if that will effect how your bumper fits on. With my 98 integra it was not a problem.

Woulden't taking the metal front bumper off make the front end weak? The radiator support is pretty cheap stamped steel so I don't think it adds too much ridgity at all. Maybe a metal tube with mounting plates on the ends would help. it would give you a place to mount the IC also.

the front end is already weak in most crashes. My friend was in an accident, hit a tree at like 40mph and smashed the front end in so far it cracked his block, so mostly likely if its wrecked it wont help much. and i'm sure my ic would assorb most of it

I took off my bumper support and it looks like the best way to go. I measured the way i had it before and i only got like 5 inches of ground clearance with the bumper support off it made it like 3-4 inches higher and is going to make my piping fit perfectly. I just need a way to mount it there now. I jusr need to trim up the top of my bumper alittle more and it should fit fine.

intercooler (to my knowledge) arent directional as long as air can pass over them and wisk away the hot air it should work, rightside up, upside down, should not matter.

if its gonna be a track car, rip the bumper support out and mount it in there nicely.

The bumper is only good for minor bumps... If u are going fast enough to bend the frame, then the bumper isnt going to matter much... Just mount the intercooler however u feel like cause it isn't going to matter to the air... just like lohatch said...
