Default tuning issues.

i just got my d tuned today 285whp, 225wtq, im extremely disapointed with these numbers... i was hoping for more around 350whp.

heres my dyno sheet on 15 psi, notice at 5700rpm my power band goes to crap, btw t3/t04e 50 trim 63 a/r garret turbo so it should handle it fine.
http://www.hondacivicforum.com...51306

on 18 psi i made 270whp, wtf? cars not getting to hot either.

now my intercooler is a godspeed 3" thick, 30 inches long, 11 inches tall 2.5" inlet and outlet, has anyone had problems with these??

or could it be my ic piping has to many bends? i have 2 90's, 2 180's, and like a 60. (the piping routed through the engine bay not the air filter hole) could all the bends be disrupting the boost?

any help on this would be HUGE!

thanks a lot guys, i hope i can get you some better numbers soon

action 2ms, with around 5k of stock d16y8 on it lol. clutch is definately handling it.

im beginning to think its the routing of my piping, when sent through the engine bay it adds up an extra 240+ degrees of bend.. theres an extra 180 and an extra 70 at least

i also have 2" piping from turbo to IC, then 2.5" from IC to Throttle body, im wondering if the 2" pipe could restrict the flow as well and thats why its not passing through the intercooler as cleanly.

basically the car hates ANYTHING over 15psi

Not really. Are you more concerned w/ the HP number that the particular dyno gives, or what the car can now do what it didn't do before? If you're pleased with the car in particular, and the drivability of the tune itself, forget about the number on the screen and just drive. If there are some leakage issues, or some other part of the map/dyno session that is showing some problems, then I can see trippin' out over it. Otherwise, Bah.. just enjoy, if it is enjoyable.

have you done a boost leak test? I was having some problems similar to this once and I think the turbo was spinning way out of it's efficiency range which was heating the air up waaay more for the higher boost level. To put it lightly the turbo was compressing enough air to make 40lbs and it was only making 15. What were your IATs?

For those of you who can't see it.

I'm not going to lie, that looks like you've either got some serious ignition problems or your tuner has no where near enough timing in the car.

Your torque is about what I'd expect though.

And no, I doubt your intercooler is choking at 300whp already. You can always switch it out for something different but that doesn't look like it's your problem to me.

i have an ebay $120 distributor on it, and the car was tuned on that, he was having problems sinking the dyno w/ the car though, he kept re adjusting the little cover that they put over the distributor that links it into the dyno.

i have a nology ext coil that puts out 45,000 volts that i havent installed yet because i wanted to pick up a pro fire ignition control module first, think that that will make the distributor put out the juice i need?

my tuner may have been stumped because i forgot to tell him the distributor was a cheap aftermarket i didnt even think about it hes very reputable, knows what hes doing, when we made 277 on 15 psi he was pumped, but as soon as we pushed the 16 limit we couldnt get any more juice.

oh and sov, my distributor is all the way adjusted to one side, im pretty sure he ran out of timing i know hondas ignition is totally awesome, apparently not the aftermarket honda distributors though...

after all thats said, do you think its a complete ignition problem?

I just realize that you're from MN. But I though the tuner add/subtract timing through the engine management software. Maybe you're off a tooth or so when setting your timing. But what is your whole setup?

what exactly do you mean? the tuner couldn't set the base timing poperly? ive had aftermaket dizzys that wouldnt adjust correctly either.

IMO he should have stopped there if the base timing wasnt correct. syncing the timing is really important when using hondata.

also whats your dumptube setup? my old car got kinda choppy up top like that when i ran with no dumptube

its an open dump about 2 feet off the wastegate, downpipe 2 1/2" and the cutout is about 3 feet down from the turbo.

im planning on ditching the ebay distributors icm and coil and replacing them with a nology 45,000 volt ext coil and a pro fire ignition module, after that i should be good to go with that dist right?

and yea he was really having problems getting syncing the car with the dyno

car was pulling hard and running good up until 15 psi, thats when we encountered the issues.

Maybe you're blowing your spark out. What plugs are you running and gap?

using ngk bkr7e's 2 steps colder. and lol, they wernt gapped in teh beginning and we started blowing out spark at 12 psi

i think the issue is that the aftermarket dist is just plain not putting out enough spark....

my new question is, should an aftermarket 45,000 volt ext coil + pro fire ignition mod + new cap + new rotor + new plug wires solve my problem? so i can re tune to my previous 330+whp goal efficiantly

did the dyno look like an earthquake at lower boost levels as well?

no it didnt, smoothe as silk actually. we squeezed every ounce of power out of it before taking it off the dyno thats why your seeing it so nasty up top.

i turned the boost down to 8lbs because i am so scared of the dyno sheet.

even 200whp is fun!
