Default Inspect my Oil Return Line

Using Stan's -10AN oil return line.

I think the gradient is good however the bung was welded to the oil pan on a very slight down angle. Tell me what you guys think please.

Side View (driver side)

In this view you can see the downward angle of the bung.

Better pic of the oil pan bung

looks like the oil will back up a bit before it flows to the pan. I'de say it's marginal but it's hard to tell fom pics.

There is a quick (read GHETTO-at your own risk) fix for the welded fitting. You could get an old -10AN fitting and cut it off or whatever you need to do. Put the fitting on the welded fitting so you can see straight through, then put a small pipe that fits the inside pefrecty (big screwdriver, 3/8" extension etc...) and pry up on the fitting. The thin pan will distort easily and let you level it out. The weld should hold with no problem if it was even half way strong. Ghetto but it works in a pinch. Just make sure to put the extra fitting on it so you don't distort the tapred part of the Welded one. I have done this succesfully but i'm not proud of it, except that it worked

I have a question, my car smokes everyonce in a while and someone told me its because of my return line. My **** goes like str8 down fromt he pan and loops back up over the charge pipe to the turbo. Its ANYTHING but direct. Is that really a reason the car would smoke?

Yes, the oil drain is by gravity so if it doesn't have a direct shot down to the pan it will back up and leak through the seals in the turbo causing your car to smoke and over time it will fail.

On a second note, the drain up top looks good Some of the pics make it look like it goes up but I think it's just the angle of the pics, looks good to me.

You're fine !! But if you were to do it again, I'd cut the line a little shorter and angle the 45 degree swivel hose end on the bottom a little higher, so it wil help you have a downflow on the line.

But, leave it alone, you'll be fine..
