Inexpensive/Relieable engine management.
Thanks for all the great info Blue. Ive been reading through the UD forums and Keeblers write ups, very good stuff. I think Im going to go with the Ostrich set up and see how that works out. Like I said I do have a goal of 500whp, but my current turbo is not going to support anywhere near that, but I NEED boost, so for now Im only looking at 10-12psi, and when I do build the block I will probably switch over to the AEM EMS. I currently dont have a lap top, but its something I know Im going to have to get at some point and Dell has a pretty nice one for about $30 a month, so Im going with that as well. Ill keep you guys up dated and get some pics as the project progresses. Once again thanks for all the helpfull advice.
NP meng, The Ostrich should work out really good. I still have the BURN1, but I am currently working on a solution that will allow me to burn chips without removing the chip from the ECU. The car still has to be turned off, but you can leave the chip plugged in. I just came up with the idea a few hours ago, so all I have been doing right now is research on the net. But basically it involves using a 28 pin DIP socket which can accept a 28pin printer cable. The EPROM chip stays in the ECU plugged into the socket attached to the cable, and the ribbon cable connects the chip to the burner.
Anyways, enough about that...I bought an AEM EMS a few years back and it looked like it had a LOT of options. More options then I needed it seems like hehehe. But there are people out there making big power, but I guess when you're making a large amount of power you'll want to go to a shop and have them tune it with an EMS that they are good with. Unfortunately a lot of tuners out there wont even tune your car if you have one of the free standalones. So you end up doing a lot of your own tuning with UD, TE and Crome. But maybe after some time You'll know enough about it and feel comfortable enough tuning with it that you might even stick with it for your big HP goals.

Heya Reedy,
I've been doing some reading up in the last couple of hours on how the Ostrich works. It looks like you'll still need a burner like the Willem Enhanced or the BURN1 to burn your final chip.
From my understanding to use the Ostrich romulator, you take the chip out of the ECU and in its okace you plug in the Ostrich emulator. While you are doing making your different changes in the cells you hit upload and the laptop sends the ROM file to the emulator plugged into the ECU. Once you are done tuning with the Ostrich you save your .bin file, and turn off the car. You then unplug the Ostrich from the ECU and you laptop and plug in the BURN1 or Willem and burn your tuned .bin file to a chip. Then the chip goes into the ECU, and you're done.
I just wanted to make sure you knew that you'd still need a burner with the Ostrich setup.

Ok, I see. The ostrich lets you make changes without the nessacary trial and error and time cosumption of the BURN1. It pretty much lets you adjust your set up hwere you want it and then you save it and burn to a chip that gets pluged in. Thanks again Blue.

np dood, I found that out just recently, and I wanted to make sure you knew. That way you wouldn't curse my name when you found out that you needed both of em. hehehe
