Ideal turbo specs for GSR turbo daily driver @8psi?
ive searched and cant really find what i am looking for. i plan on boosting my gsr, nice simple setup. I only plan on running a safe 8psi. what size turbo would be ideal for my daily driver? would a t3/t4 be overkill for what i am looking for? should i just go with a straight t3?
i dont want to make crazy hp numbers. i have rc 440's, holley 255 pump, phantom boost and a/f gauges, and vafc so far... i plan on buying ssautochrome manifold, jrc fmic, 1g dsm bov

a t3/t4 with .48 exhaust and 50 trim should good for you. Or even a t3 60 trim. Why not just get a bolt-on turbo kit and call it a day?

first off, DO NOT get the ssautochrome manifold. It seems to be the cool thing to bash the SS manifolds here on H-T, but i speak from experience. I was actually PAID by SSAutoChrome to install and take pictures of their manifold(yeah that integra with the red ground wires on the ebay ads is mine). I used it no more than 3 weeks, when the wastegate flange completely fell off.
Secondly, when do you want boost to kick in? since its daily driven, i'm assuming you only want to boost after 3,500? a small t-3 will spool very quickly, meaning you will be boosting while getting milk from the grocery store.
Third, are you sure that's all you want to do? If you get a cheap and wimpy turbo, what happens if you want more later? I say go a large t3/t4, so you stay outta boost till you get on the gas, and have more room for improvement later.
CLIFF NOTES: SSautochrome=ghey, big t3/t4 to stay out of boost daily driving, and room for improvement.

I have a pretty stock GSR 10:1 compression with a T3/T4 57 trim .60/.63 ar's that I got from cheapturbo.com. Boost starts at around 3200 and is full boost around 4500 rpms. I'm running 10lbs on hondata/dsm injectors/maxrev mani/2.5" donwpipe.
Great turbo, monster top end.

I've got a stock '99 GS-R with a Revhard manifold and a 3/T04E 60-trim, 2.5" DP and 2.3" exahust. It's a little laggy, but it's slow where I want it and picks up NICELY over 5k rpm.. again, just where I want it. Personally it suits me for daily driving, but I want an SC61!

I am also planning to boost my stock GSR motor and have the same questions as Dunkd about chosing the right turbo and specs. And please no <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Rowdy »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Just go with the RevHard kit.
</TD></TR></TABLE> responces. I don't know about Dunkd, but I don't have the $$ to just pick up a kit and then all the extras, so I am used turbo shopping.

Thanks for the responce. Can you elaborate on why you suggest that? Like when boost comes on, when it reaches full boost, or what kind of PSI that turbo would limit someone to if they ever did internals and wanted more boost?

Sorry to be so vague earlier.
I had a Drag kit with 7 lbs of boost in my Crx (B16a), The EK hatch that I had (H22a) used the Rev-Hard kit with 8 lbs. of boost. (both went 12's with stock engines).
The Gsr can make 300 hp and go 12's also, LDL Speed shop has done it countless times and can produce timeslips/dynosheets etc. for you.
These kits have all you need, and make excellent Corvette killers (trust me). It's up to you now..
I am not wrong with anything I have said here, Check my sig..I can produce timeslips anytime too.

You are going to get a thousand different answers. It really depends on what your looking for.
t3/t4 50trim .48ar = awesome fast spoolup, decent power all around power. Amazing midrange.
SC61/t3 = full boost at 4800-5200rpms, amazing power at low boost with a killer topend
Then you can do anything in the middle of those two. Go a step bigger, more lag and more power on the dyno, go down a step and you get faster spool with less power.
So what do you want?

Thank you liam. That kind of responce is really helpful. I didn't mean to dismiss you Rowdy or put you down. I just don't have the cash to drop on a kit so I need to piece it together with some good used stuff.
Based on another users set up, results, and comments I think I would want a t3/t4 with like .60 AR and 57 trim. Pretty close to what envision said.

I understand, you are looking for more range specific responses.
.60 a/r and 57 trim is what I had with the Rev-Hard kit.
It was perfect for my needs with the 2.2, (daily driver and weekend autocross/dragstrip fun).

Re: Ideal turbo specs for GSR turbo daily driver @8psi? (liam821)
I too am thinking of getting a turbo kit for my 1996 GSR. Does the Drag turbo kit, or Revhard turbo kit still retain your A/C? I was told that since my car is a 1996 that I should put the OB-1 ECU in with that adapted plug (OB-II to OB-1), is this right? Thanks!

As far as I know, you can retain A/C with both of those turbo kits, just make sure you get the correct manifold from the place you buy your kit from, (be specific with the sales rep).
Going obd-1 is always a great idea for faster response and the car takes better to modifications. - Just be sure to know someone in the smog business.
