Default I am new to Super-Charging.

Ok, I know the difference, but what would be an advantage about a super over a turbo. (Besides the spool up time)? Is there a way to control the air flow from the cockpit? (Check out this... http://www.clubsi.com/whats_hot.shtml I hardly ever hear people talking about super charging....its always turbo this and turbo that... Please enlightin me...

Sorry for my ignorance. I hope I don't get flamed for this, but I am learning, ya know? Thanks guys!

more people here are power ******.. JRSCs don't allow for as much power as what a turbo can, so that's why this place is dominated by turbo freaks (like myself.. hehe )

I think supercharging would be good if you wanted just a little bit more power over standard, and if you couldn't be bothered with all the maintenance that a turbocharged honda requires. JRSC = ok. Turbo = FUN!!!

On a SOHC I wouldn't even waste any time with a JRSC. Not enough gain for the money.

Someone please explain to me why a Blower isn't fun? There's no waiting.. No Spool... Just instant Torque and Horsepower.

so that's why this place is dominated by turbo freaks
Times are a Changing

I think supercharging would be good if you wanted just a little bit more power over standard
So 218Fwhp at 8Psi is Alittle over stock in a GSR?

JRSC = ok. Turbo = FUN!!!
More like JRSC = Simple
Turbo = Pain in the ***!!!

anything can be simple with proper tuning. Has nothing to do whether its a blower or a turbo.

IMO i would go turbo. More potential and easier to upgrade. Plus its more effiecient which is always nice.

Whatever you do, proper tuning is key. You should do a search, you will probably find more info.

good luck

I have a 99 Civic Si. I bought a JRSC because i thought it was reliable and was guaranteed for 100k miles ect. ect. ect. Well 10k miles later it was sitting in my basement and posted for sale. I only ever ran it at 6psi w/an intake, header, testpipe, and exhaust, but it didn't impress me much! With that setup in the summer my intake temps at the manifold after the blower were as high as 240 degree's! With no intercooler option available i was afraid to boost any higher! I now am putting together my own turbo kit.

BTW my best time on street tires w/JRSC and intake was 14.5 @95. I didn't have the header testpipe or exhaust at the time.

I think I talked to you that night you got that time at ATCO. I had the black civic hatch w/ b18b. Do you have a red Si?

And SI's run what stock? 15 Flat at 90 or less? So in average you gained 50Hp with the Blower. I've heard of GSR's running 14 Flat at 100 on Stock boost.. Maybe you're just a bad driver

With no intercooler option available
Water Injection is Available

Let me put this in Lamens terms... You can't just expect to throw a Blower on and for everything to be perfect. It doesn't work like that... Sorry.

It really depends on what YOU are looking for. All out horsepower for the dragstrip or street racing = Turbo. If you want a nice 40-70hp over stock for an everyday driver or a autox or roadrace car with very little hassle = Supercharger.

I personally went with a SC for the main reason of autoXing and some road racing. The bottom end torque and no lag (instant boost) is great for this. I also went with the SC because of the drivability and smogging issues in california.

While the upgrade possiblities for turbos are infinite you can also do alot to a SC car. I run the ENDYNE pulley, I/H/E, RC310 injectors, J & S Safeguard, ITR exhaust cam, MSD and bumped the rev limiter to 9k. 94 GSR full body 12.81@108 with 8" slicks - passes smog.

There are advantages to both - figure out what you want from your car.

JRSC's are garbage IMO. The blower is iefficient at even low boost, it just blows hot air constantly and there's no cheap way of intercooling it as yet. If I had to supercharge I would go with the Vortech, I dont like the fact that it's a centrifugal charger just cus I dont like the linear boost curve, and the fact that you have to rev it to make power, but hey, atleast it makes power. How many JRSC's make power? At 10psi they dont usually even get near 300hp even with standalone. And once you got the bigger pulley, and the standalone, and the water injection, and the nitrous your still **** out of power, and you lost all the reliability you had at low boost because the blower is so inefficient.

I'd rather get a turbo anyday. A vortech modified to bleed boost on the top end would be cool, cus then you could use a larger pulley and it would spool earlier..

Like I was saying - I depends on what YOU are looking for! After watching Turbo and Vortech cars get eatin alive at AutoX because there is no time to spool I would take a SC for that application anyday. All out HP - no question its turbo.

I'm actually considering a JRSC for my 99 GS-R. I already have a strip can in the Civic (D16 turbo), now I'd like to focus on something more for autocrossing, and there's no doubt that the instant torque from a JR unit excells here

93LSivic that was probably me you talk to at atco. It was last year some time.

Blk97GSR i have never seen a civic Si run a 15 flat or less stock. A type-r only runs 14.7. The best time i've seen stock is like 15.7-.8 at 89mph or so. I ran 15.3-.4 with just a cold air intake. That is why i didn't like the JRSC. I really haven't seen any fast cars at local tracks either with a JRSC (Atco,E-town,Maplegrove)

Mike,

It was just a guess. I didn't think civic's ran that much lower but thanks for correcting me.
