How tunable are Crower 403's w/boost
the engine is LS and tuning will be taken care of by Zdyne Gold and RC 440's. I know Crower has the stg2 turbo cam but i was wondering how tunable the 403's are and if 403's would make decent (more than 402t's) power with moderate boost. around 10psi out of a .48ar t3/t3.
402T's:
CROW 62402T B18A/B Stage 2 Turbo/Supercharger,
235 Int/235 Exh,
.469/.469 Lift
403's:
CROW 62403 B18A/B Stage 2 Street/Strip,
243/246,
.423/.409 Lift
402T's:
CROW 62402T B18A/B Stage 2 Turbo/Supercharger,
235 Int/235 Exh,
.469/.469 Lift
403's:
CROW 62403 B18A/B Stage 2 Street/Strip,
243/246,
.423/.409 Lift

Re: How tunable are Crower 403's w/boost (Vetter)
i dun think the 403 cams will work too well at all with turbo/sc system.
perhaps u may even loose power. its all about short duration, high lift for added cylinder pressure.

crower 403s + boost =
like t72 said, for turbo its all about short duration and high lift.
just get yourself a set of GSR cams, those we'll be fine for you.

he has an LS motor...no such thing as putting vtec cams in a non vtec motor

Re: How tunable are Crower 403's w/boost (J337_UNIT)
Woops! I guess i must have missed that. Anywho...the 403s with boost is still a bad idea. I guess just keep the stock cams or get some turbo spec cams then.

Re: How tunable are Crower 403's w/boost (SpoolnG2)
TTT Thread from the dead.
I wanted to see if anyone else had any opinions on this. I have heard some people say that the overlap can be dialed out for more HP on the 403's. Anyone have any hard facts on this matter?
Thanks in advance fellas

Either way. . . I'm gonna find out. I don't have 402's to compare with, but I just bought the 403's. . . finally said F-it and just went for it.
<----- hoping he can get the overlap dialed out so he doesn't kick himself lat.

Did I make it clear enough? High duration promotes high VE at the upper RPM's, which means MORE POWER.

Guess what? Those crower 403's are smaller than the VTEC lobes on GSR cams. I would love to see somebody test this, because you will pick up power running 403's or even 404's vs. the turbo cams.
On the last few cars Jeff has posted on here they have both seen SIGNIFICANT gains on GSR and ITR cams by using the cam gears TO DIAL IN MORE VALVE OVERLAP! If you use the cam gears to eliminate all valve overlap you're going to make your motor much more prone to detonation and it's going to fall dead on it's face on the top end.

That's GREAT to read!!!!
I'm feeling better about my decision to go with the 403's already!
Any method to the madness of dialing in overlap. . .? Just play with the cam angle until you find your happy place?

Re: (DragSource)
i do recall a while back....maybe over a year or more someone running 403's with big boost and makeing VERY good power.......i would say they would probably be a good idea with cam gear tuning.......
