Default How safe?? Turbo R

How safe can a B18c5 motor go with a stock motor(pistons/rods)? stock except inline pro headgasket. with Fuel/tuning.
A friend of mine has a t3/t4 turbo, hes only putting down 220hp @ 10psi People said its the inline pro headgasket that is robbing him of power. Is it safe to take off the headgasket and run about 5 psi? possibly more power? They said it made hes compression to low. some guy up here had a 254whp/170lbs tq @ 5psi.. he didnt mention any pistons or rods or anything in hes posts.
220 at the wheels isnt that weak? for 10 psi.. how can he get more power? pistons and rods will be on the motor somewhere in december..

Headgasket is not the cause to not have enough power. Probably bad tuning did.

The people who tunned it said the head gasket was thick and it robbed him of power.. Anything else other then tuning that might be the problem?
Forgot to mention. when hes crusin around at low rpm the meter is in lean. when hes in boost it goes to rich. is that normal?

never go by a AF gauge without a wideband.....get a good EGT gauge it is more accurate. also, the inline pro HG is a safety measure and those cars go very fast on stock internals. I have the inline pro HG too on my ITR. I hope to dyno soon as well....220whp isn't very good for 10spi really, but you have to look at the type of dyno it was....I know of a sentra that put down 220whp on a mustang dyno and 325whp on a dyno jet.

Um im not sure what kind of dyno it was, ill ask him when i see him i doubt he'd know because the shop took hes car and did everything when he wasn't around. what is the ideal hp he should be expecting @ 10 psi. it is safe to boost at 10psi?.
By the way whats your set up? dyno #s? track times?

Here is a stock block itr that I tuned running 8lbs.

http://www.boosted-hybrid.com/dyno_video.html

That graph was his last run, 15 total dyno runs. The engine was heat soaked. We could easily make 310whp with a 3" dp and 3" exhaust. This was on the 10.6:1 compression. Your friend needs a good tuner.

ah, good point, mustang dyno do under rated the power ( or it could be the other way around, dyno jet over rated the power).

So its the tuning right. damn those tunners!.
Brings me to the point, when you take your car to the dyno to get it tunned, what all are they doing/changing?
hes also runnin hondata. if that helps. I wonder why those tunners didn't tune them right, the shop take most of their cars to that dyno place.

I am located in easton, pa. Pretty far from VA.

I would suggest Sgt to tune your car. He is in your area, and is one of the best hondata tuners in the country. Pm him: Sgt

They are probably on the safe side by running rich or retarding excessive timing. Just protecting themselves. I run alot of timing but then again, I tune it myself so if it did blow, it's on me. I like to run alittle more than safe timing.

they redid it to the pan...the block turned out to be too high....

but its going really well still breaking in but I already feel a noticeble torque boost at only 0.1 bar ...1 bar is going to be insane!!
