Blown Headgasket
Hey guys i got a stock b16 full garrett turbo kit with upgraded fuel system and 750cc injectors running 6 psi and about 200whp. Ive only had the turbo on for 1500 miles, car has 108,000 milesand dont drive it hard that often. I blew my headgasket and cracked three pistons. was 200 whp too much for stock i read all the time they can take 300. Was it a bad tune? my friends have gone to the same tuining shop with no problems, so now my shop is quoting me $2200 for wiseco pistons w/ eagle rods. anyone try these pistons out? i know that everyone gets eagle rods so i know those r good. Im also getting arp headstuds with a turbo gasket and all the labor is included in the 2200. I wanna shoot for 6-7 psi at 220whp, its my dd so i want it really reliable, thats why my power goal is low. anything else i should get while the engine is apart? Lastly i want to retune because im kinda sceptical about the last one, know any good honda turbo tuining shops in the bbay area? any help is greatly appreciated

It COULD have been the tune, its hard to tell with out seeing data logs or pictures. I made over 350whp for almost a year then got bored and wanted to see how far it would go, check the sig. If you are going to have it built call around, to the big name shops like Golden Eagle. If you do go with the eagle rods and wiseco pistons, if built properly 220 is very safe. If it was my daily on those parts I would have no problem pushing it to 300 if the turbo setup will go that far. I am not too familiar with off the shelf turbo kit capabilities though.

Just my .02 take it with a grain of salt. Everyone has their own opinion about a daily driver.

It could have been the tune, age of the engine, etc. Too many other factors consider when it comes to the age of the engine.

"Turbo" headgasket sounds like a pipe dream. The OEM headgasket can take well over 700whp. there's no need for that. To make over 300whp on pistons and rods "reliably" is based upon how well the engine has been assembled and balanced, as well as the components used and tune.

Wiseco Pistons are just fine, and have been working for boosted engines for many years, as well as Eagle rods or the Skunk2 Rods.. Use the ARP studs, make sure that the engine management is solid, and that the REST OF THE CAR IS MECHANICALLY SOUND. Whether it takes 6 psi or 16psi, just make sure its tuned well, as boost PSI does not determine whether or not the engine is within safe limits.

It sounds like you need to shop around. What area of the U.S. are you located? that may make a difference as well.
