Default How safe is SOHC greddy kit at stock boost??

I am wondering how safe it would be to run a greddy kit at stock boost on my D16Y8 motor.

I know lots of people blow their engines and detonate and ****, but if I keep it at 6 psi, and use 93 octane, and change my oil regularly, I should be fine, right??

Thanks for the help!!!

You'll be fine. i ran at 91 octane and 6 psi with no intercooler for 7 months (january-august) and i was perfectly fine.

yeah, my brother just got it for his SOHC vtech (d16z6) engine with 120,000 miles, since the turbo kit, he's put on around 8,000 miles...no problems yet.

on stock boost it will definitely be safe unless ur motor is terribly sick and about to go out anyway. i doubt greddy would piece together a complete kit for the sohc and sell it in mass amounts if it wasn't safe enough to last awhile.

As long as the fuel setup works well it will be fine.... You could dyno it to make sure.

I've been running the greddy kit at 8 psi intercooled for a little while so far. My z6 has 100,000 on it....

Take care of your fuel, don't take shortcuts, and you'll be fine.

Cool, this is exactly what i was hoping for. I hear a lot of stories on here about guys blowing there engines, but I guess it is like everything, you only hear about it when it goes wrong.

My engine has a little under 60k on it, and it is well maintained. What should I replace before I boost for preventative reasons. Fuel filter or something like that?

Yes, changing fuel filter is a good idea!

My Y8 had 50,500 miles and i didn't really change anything except the oil and oil filter ... of course. so far so good! you might also want to get 1-step colder spark plugs for mild boost setup. I know the kit was designed with OEM spark plugs in mind, but it's always better to go slightly colder. i went from NGK zfr5f-11s to 6f-11s.

I got a d16z6 and I was wondering what boost level is safe to run on stock internals and great for daily driving 6-8psi? What's the most amount you can run on stock internals?
