How quickly does your EGT move?
I got the new downpipe installed with the egt probe sticking in the little hole on the turbo housing. OK, so my egt's read higher than on the downpipe (near testpipe).. my question now is how fast does your needle move?
I nailed it this morning for a few seconds and the egt temperature climbs pretty fast.. I know that heat increases pretty fast in boost, just wanted to know how fast and when does it level out if at all? Is there a level it will reach then hang for a little bit depending on the boost? I have 370cc injectors at about 10psi of boost and she moves steadily and quickly....
any ideas what i should be looking at? any helpfull info...

Re: How quickly does your EGT move? (GSRwBOOST)
When I was boosting at 5-7psi, the needle still climbed very quickly. It would just go higher and higher with no signs of slowing or stopping.
After my friend tuned my AFC a bit (stock injectors), it climbed very fast....and kinda slowed down for about 1.5 seconds at around 1250F and then went up again.
From then, I'd just try to keep it under 1300F whenever I boost. Some people say I can go higher, some say lower. I'm paranoid, so I just keep it there and let off when it gets to 1300F.
After my rebuild, I'm going to have to experiment all over again.
EDIT: This was with the probe in the manifold right before the turbo. I had the stock Drag III downpipe, stock exhaust, , stock injectors, and a stupid axleback exhaust.

Re: How quickly does your EGT move? (GSRwBOOST)
I get about 700-800 when freeway cruising, and 800 at WOT. Dustin has his setup the same way and he said he got about the same numbers. As far as how fast it increases....I origionally ran with just injectors, no pump and no fmu for a month and it increased blazingly fast. Now it doesn't climb so fast at all..so if your's is going up REALLY quick your probably leaning out bad. BTW I'm running 310's, an 8:1 disk, and a bosch pump

I have my probe in the downpipe after the turbo and i'd say it moves kinda fast but not THAT fast. Like if i have it at 900-1000F then stop at a light, it will take maybe 4-5 seconds to go all the way back down.
when driving around it's normally around 1000F, when cruising on the freeway it's usually around 1100-1200F. i've never seen it go above 1200F, even when boosting in 5th from like 70mph-100mph..

I assume this is degrees C?

I have the exact same set up..........310's, 8:1 and inline pump. My probe is in #1 runner......I get 700C on Greddy gauge at 70-80mph on highway and at boost it goes up 20 degrees or so.......usually it stays the same.

Re: How quickly does your EGT move? (Tom)
It climbs pretty quickly..
tonight i'm going to get on it on the freeway in third and see what develops... i'm assuming it should level out around 8-900 degrees (greddy egt).. for a bit then go up.. initially climbing to that pretty quckly because of the increased heat with the turbo...
mine is tapped into the same place dustin's is tapped.. into the downpipe where it would go into the hole int h e turbo housing... right at the turbo exhuast port..
i have 370 cc injectors and 8-1 fmu disk, aem fuel rail, holly 255lph intank and the airtex inline pump...

Re: How quickly does your EGT move? (Farnsrocket)
Mine is actually on the #3 runner in the manifold now.
With the old setup, EGTs would peak at about 820-830C, full boost through 1-3 gears and into fourth.
With my new 3" exhaust, and the probe tapped into the #3 runner on the manifold, I can't really get it to go higher than 750C no matter what I do.
BTW, tapping the probe after the turbo is absolutely worthless. So any of you up there who have it in the downpipe after the turbo should move the probe. The turbo is a heat exchange device, so your numbers are no reflection of the actual EGT of the motor.

Re: How quickly does your EGT move? (dustin)
I nailed it coming home, .55bar and the EGT's shot up to 7-750 and stayed there... most of the way through third.. so it's good.
