Default How much time to pull per pound of boost???

Okay...

Yes I'm a Volkswagen tuner. But...forced induction is the same across the boards.

I'm curious as to how much total time you guys run for your boosted Hondas?

On my 1.8L 16V STOCK VW bottom end I made 171whp on 7psi. I bumped the boost up to 10psi but now I'm getting a little knock according to SDS. The car is still pulling strong but my programmer is showing a knock event occured.

Compression is 9:1, 42lbs injectors, SDS standalone, 93 pump, NGK BRK7e or Bosch F6DTCs(experimenting)...

I'm running 30 degrees advance at 3000 and up and pull 1 degree per 1lb of boost which would mean 20 total timing at full boost/WOT.

According to the ZT-2...I'm pretty much right on for AFR with high 11s, low 12s.

What do you guys run?

Thanks,

pic for views....

most guys do 1 degree per psi of boost

some guys do step retard

.25 degree regard per psi boost 1-3

.50 degree per 4-6

.75 7-8

somethign along those lines. do a lil research. those are just " rough" numbers.

IMO 1 is a lot if you are running a lot of boost.

i know mine is .75 degrees per psi of boost in the hondata, but we had to alter some of the high speed tables as far as tweeking some of the timng because my motor seemed to like timing

Yep, by the time I'm donw tweaking the timing here and there, it's never the same as a solid xx* per psi etc.. then you have to take into account that different motors behave quite differently, some just like alot more timng than others.

so is it bad to pull more than 1 degree of time per pound of boost? So run 30 advance, 10 psi, pull 12 at WOT and end up with 18 total?

I wish VWs head design was better

No. Pull as much timing to stop detonation. Make sure AFR is around 11.5:1.

not enough timing can increase exhaust gas temperatures
