Icon6 How Much Boost???

I know there isnt a big secret in the fact that it take lots of boost to get there and that the days of low boost being 20 psi is dead and gone. But the big Question on my mind and I am sure others, is.

How much Boost are you guys actually running to make it into your 8 second Personal best, and on what turbo? Just those 2 questions please....

I've heard of guys making 900 HP range under 40 psi. That should get you very close to an 8sec pass.

Mid 50's...My best runs have been with 53/54lbs at most while crossing the traps at right around 50.

To answer your question after rereading your initial post. I was able to go 8.9 on 36 lbs. I am pretty sure the way the car is dialed in now I can go a little quicker with that boost level. So it doesnt take all the much boost to go 8's per say but to get deeper in the 8's I have had to turn it up a considerable amount obviously.

Pretty much sums it up. Once the car is dialed in, you can go 8's without a ton of boost. I think you can go high 8's with around 900whp, which should be mid to high 30's in boost on a setup like this.

Are you guys using ARP head studs or that L19 for that boost level or something else? Thank you for your replies so far.

I run a head stud kit we had made that works great. $750. No need for the 1/2" stud and all that goes along with it. I have retourqed em probably 15 tomes already and they are still in great shape.

The engine I ran for the most part of the season I had just shy of 40 passes on before I tore it down and freshened it up. The engine I ran at the end of last season leading onto this season had just over 40 hits on it before the to let go.

The engine I had in the car for outlaw was junk, a bunch of thrown together laying around junk that just happened to stay together somehow.

The engine I ran at world cup was brand new and is destroyed. When the o-ring blew out and fuel pressure dropped it lifted the head so hard on that first pass it pulled the block into 2 pieces. We changed the gasket and made it so it could limp through the rounds at world cup. After further inspection we found the factory girdle to be cracked and 2 of the main caps to have split just outside of the bore for the stud/bolt. It seems as though the crank is tryin to push out the bottom of the engine. The last few engines I have had in my car when taken apart the main bolt threads aren't in the beat shape. It is something that I am addressing with our new engine program that I will run in 2011.

Miller, its pics like that that we would love to see. haha. I love carnage pics. Ive got some pretty narly carnage pics.

Here is a pic of one of my old sr20 motors with CP pistons on stock rods. Dropped a valve, shattered the piston and the rod and wrist pin punched through the cylinder wall also cracking the block. Rod miraculously stayed in once piece on the crank. haha

Post some carnage pics man. Offseason is the perfect time for that sort of stuff. Maybe i should start a thread with carnage pics.

Thats why i chose the Golden Eagle studs for my SR20 motor. B16a studs to be exact. The bottoms are exactly the same as a proper stud that bottoms out in the block only difference is the top is about 1/4" taller. No biggie. Ran 30+psi on the motor with zero issues. Stud nuts were still on tight as hell when i took the head off to freshen up the motor.

Im not anywhere near the range your at but i plan to go to 700whp on the same motor i used for a year. Just made a cam change, springs and retainers, and so on. Now going with a 67mm turbo and should be able to hit that goal on about 35-38psi. I think the studs will be fine to that.

Now post some carnage pics. haha

I was running ngk 7 heat range with a .024 gap. Im gonna run 8 heat range on the new setup.
