i usually keep my oil level midway between the empty and full dots on the stock dipstick.

and don't over fill it....by doing it,. you can block the oil return flange on the oil pan causing the oil to get backed up in the return line...

I always tried to re-check it after a few miles of driving around after an oil change

too much oil also blows oil seals on your turbo.

ack I have a tad above the 2nd dot on the stock dipstick, or in other words 4.2 quarts of oil.

As long as you're above the MIN dot, I wouldn't worry about it.

agreed!
keep it toward the lower dot. Too much oil definitely impeded flow into your return fitting. Filling your oil to the top of the fill line will have your oil level about 1/4 way up your return hole fitting the way most of us have ours drilled.

I noticed during oil burning smells after hard boosting especially after when braking when that hole will be essentially covered in oil. the oil returning from the turbo is not just a stream of oil coming down that tube, its a froth wipped up by the bearing.
