Hey all. I was planning on turboing my 96 LS with 104k over the summer if I can raise the funds.

I planned on getting a kit for around 2k and spending another 1k for installation and tuning. I'd like to only run 5-7 PSI and make around 200whp (Hopefully enough to make 14's and still keep her streetable with pump gas). What I wanted to know, is what to look for for problems after the turbo is installed and properly tuned.

I know a turbocharger is not a plug and play, but how much play is involved after the plug?

regular oil changes. regular/daily oil and coolant checks do good for me

its a pain in the @ss but youll get used to it. you gotta check oil daily and make sure everything is bolted and ready to go.

Would you want to drive your turbo'd car without or low oil?

Checking oil daily? Doesn't sound too bad... I check it about every other day as it is heh.

So seeings how I'm only running 5-7 psi and getting it tuned properly I shouldn't run into any extraordinary problems? How bout longevity?

checkin oil every day is a must, and also pulling your plugs every week or 2 is a good idea, crawling under the car often is a good idea too because you can spot oil leaks that are new too.

Okay, seeings how I have a 96 LS with 104000 miles how much do you think I'll get out of her running 5-7 psi?

I know it's hard to tell, but gimme a rough estimate.

tuned right at 5-7 psi i, i would think 200 to 215.

keep an eye on oil levels, coolant levels, and engine temps.

And I recommend keeping in the car:

Hose Clamps
Zip Ties
Screwdriver (for tightening clamps)
spark plug socket & ratchet
2 quarts of oil (YES TWO)
other misc tools you might need.

Definately. I keep almost all that in my car anyway along with electrical tape and a small automotive tools case. You never know. My oil was good in my wifes rodeo before I went on a trip. Next thing I know I am in the middle of nowhere with the oil idiot light on. Luckily I got to a gas station and filled her up. Now I keep whatever the capacity is in the repair manuals

Hmm, I spend about 5 mins before I start driving, checking for leaks, oil, liquids, looking under the car for dripping of some kind, checking all hoses are where they are supposed to be. Honestly 5 mins before yoru drive in the ain't gonna kill you.

I do that everytime I get ready to drive it while it's idling in my garage. I don't keep doing it throughout the day everytime I drive it again, just about once a day.

oil changes when neccessary, sparkplugs on our turbo civic, or turbo honda's foul pretty quickly. I usually buy a set of 20 plugs so I can change them whenever it's neccessary. Usually either everyother oil change if needs be. I check my plugs every month, depending on how much I drive.
