Default How much difference would a muffler REALLY make??

I have a 3" exhaust, open dumped wastegate with a precision sc51 on a built D.-stock sleeves, studded.
Running about 19 psi.
I was considering a quieter muffler, like maybe an ITR muffler. (i believe it's 2.25")
I know I would be creating some restrictions due to .75" smaller muffler, but how much power do you think I would lose by doing do?
More quieter, the less noticable out of boost.
That's what I'm thinkin. My buddy says it's detrimental doing so, and I'll lose like 50whp.

What do you guys think?

If anything, you need a resonator with a straight through design. That will deepen your exhaust/quite it, and will do a better job than any muffler. Plus it won't restrict the exhaust flow like a muffler.

I went from open sidepipe, to a full three inch, with muffler. Some summit muffler, that was three inch. I noticed a difference. My opinion, run the muffler, three inch baffled, it'll be quiet, and when you want to go, get a cutout.

The quietness i gained far outweighs the power i loss. And i also have a race muffler, it didn't do ****, i have it for a resonator still, but i would get a real muffler.

I meant instead off running a 3 " race muffler, to running a ITR muffler—and if I would lose that much power going from 3" exhaust to a 2.25"muffler.

Im sure there would be a power loss, but how much? I was thinking on the lines of 3-5whp, but my freind is stating a 50whp loss. Is he right? If so then it's certainly not worth it!

Just put the tip on another muffler with a similar style if that is the look you are going for. Otherwise get a 3in muffler.

Yes you would lose power. It's as bad as using a silencer in a 3" exhaust. Look into the 3" magnaflow or similar universal mufflers.

restriction KILLS YOUR power big time...

i ran an apexi WS exhaust... it was quiet as hell and it Robbed me of power big time...

my best investment was with a full 3inch turbo back exhaust

Thats crazy, I never thought it would make so mcuh difference. I thought there would be a power loss due to restrictions, but not a whole lot. Hmmm. Thanks guys.
You win this one Sam!

its night and day with any restriction.... turbos like to get the air out FAST.... and your exhaust is only as good as your smallest point....

bottlenecking sucks
this is my next setup, because of this principle...

Imma hump that manifold.

back to the poster though. Have you considered the Vibrant 3" mufflers. They are uber quiet on turbo cars. If you do a search for username " igo4bmx " he has a sound clip of his car with it on. They come in flat black and stainless, so keeping it stock like is easy if that is what your looking for.
