How much diffence swithing a 14b to 16g HP wise and other ?????
I'm getting a 14b on my b18b and was wanting to know if it's worth upgrading the turbo to make it a 16g or not? I read before about people doing similar things but not to sure and want to know how much differ is the 2? Is there a different size i can go for also by using the 14b? I want boost to come on pretty quick as it would with a 14b but not looking for really bad lag due to it being my daily driver. If anyone has a idea on what would be a good way to go in the future would be nice. I seen the 18g's but aren't those the greddy turbos for d-series? What is the 20g i heard this also.
And yes i have searched by typing each one of the turbos i just asked about but only found manifold problems with these and not hp ratings on the b18b and what not.

Whats your power goals 14b can support 300whp. wheras the depending on the 16g you get can support up to well over 400whp. There are many variations of the 18g turbo, their is a mitsubishi 18g and also a greddy 18g, they have different exhaust flanges, they arent interchangable. If your motor is stock I'd stick with the 14b. I'm planning on upgrading to a 20g in the future myself. Any mitsu TD0(4, 5, 6, 8) will be interchangable as far as that exhaust flange goes, so you'll still be open for upgrades in the future if you decide you dont like it. Spool will be virtually non existent (I imagine) with a b18b.

Re: (Unsivil_audio)
I'm gonna be running Uberdata from the way it looks right now as management and I have stock internals. My HP goals 250hp i'd be happy with although the more would be nice. I thought I read that the 14b supports around 225-250hp? Just maybe the wrong info I read. How's the lag in a 16g? would you happen to know? And were is a good reliable place that can get an do the 16g, 18g, and 20g upgrade if when I decide so I can save it for futute refference? I'm looking at boosting around 8-12psi just depends on how my tuning goes with uberdata.

I think I have one of the only 16Gs on a single cam civic, don't quote me on that though, I haven't seen many. The lag isn't bad at all, I thought it was going to be a lot worse. Man does this thing ever pull at 10psi. I couldn't be happier.
I think it would be a great choice on a B18. Buschar racing and hahn racecraft do a lot of turbo upgrades, also turbochargers.com can do it.

Re: (93turbo16)
I believe the flange is different on a 16g isn't "i'm not for sure though" what PSI are are running with that and when does boost kick in? HP? and 1/4 times?
Good to hear that it runs great thanks for the quick replys both of you

Like I said there are many variations of the 16g.
SCC made 296whp in their AWD 1g dsm with the stock 14b, and their is quite a bit more drivetrain loss through an AWD dsm than there is through a honda's tranny. Oh that was @ 17psi too.

the 14b, 16g and T25 all have the same flange. There are many variations of the 16g, and it all depends on the intake housing for the most part. They range from super, big and small 16gs.
My dad also has a ported 16G on his talon. That car is crazy, it is the same exact turbo I have on my car and I would not be surprised if he is close to the 400 WHP mark. But that is also at like 20 + Psi.

16G will be small but ok, but a 14b is going to fall on its *** with your motor. Quick spool up is great, but I'd rather have a little lag than a huge loss of power up top.

Re: How much diffence swithing a 14b to 16g HP wise and other ????? (Ibiza)
About the 14b falling off up top, I heard this on several topics but on one with b18's for people that had a 14b on their motor wanted to know about how much HP etc. and they said nothing about the power not being there up top. They said boost was great from the start and to redline. Maybe so right now I'm just wanting to get a feel for how things work with a turbo on my car. I like the 14b because of what I have searched so far but wanted to know how the upgrades are and how much HP they hold etc. so then I'll know for the future.

I have a 14b on my D16z6 and it fall off even on that motor. I'm upgrading this month to a T3/T04e 57 trim because I'm ready to move up. If you just want to get something on there, that's cool, but I really do recomend looking for a 16g or even 18g first if you can find one for a good price.

in my dsm days.........i made the 14b to 16g swap and i really didn't think it was worth the money. definitely made a difference, but for the prices those things go for, i'd save your money for the turbo that your really want.

Well thanks for the input on the d-series. Yeah I would like to get a t3/t4 turbo or a precision but I can't figure out what would be good for what I'm looking for. There is a **** load of people on here that boost but I get no replys. I'll try it again and see what I come up with. And I have searched but everything just isn't clear enough cause most have some type of internals or something that I won't have "at this time"

Are you serious? What did you have done to the car. There is a huge difference.

pretty much a full bolt on GVR4.........550's, 3in exhaust, starion IC, etc. on 18lbs, the car ran an 8.6 in the 1/8; w/ the 16g
going from a 14b to a non ported small 16g is going to turn a car into a beast. i suppose for 500bucks, or whatever they go for now, it's not the worse upgrade you can do. but if i was starting fresh like the guy who's asking, i'd save my money.
for anyone that cares, here's a picture............it was a fun car, but i'm glad i made the switch to honda.
