how many of you guys track/auto-x your turbo'd car??
well the topic speaks for itself. Anyone?
For those who do: what measure were taken to make things realiable?? and your set-up??
FYI, the future set-up will be a LS, stock internals, custom turbo set-up w/hondata.
TIA

i've autocrossed with my turbo LS, it's quite difficult, but I like the challenge - you just have to realize that you're not going to win any classes and go out to do your personal best

Re: how many of you guys track/auto-x your turbo'd car?? (Phantom)
what makes it difficult? the power?
also this will be in a 92 hatch, forgot to add that.
One more question: did you buy a turbo kit or put together a custom one?
TIA

yeah, I think Supercharger would be better for it, because of the instant power.
as for the hard driving.. the short time on the course shouldnt hurt your engine at all.. now your tires on the other hand..

I do it 3 times in a month and I'm defenitly faster than with my JRSC. I always thought it would suck with turbo on autoX , but it is kewl and lots of fun. Lag is not a big deal. I can hang with better cars pretty good.

well im not worrying about lag because that can be avoided(atleast somewhat) with properly sizing your turbo to your engine, hence the custom set-up.

I did an open track event in a boostin g2 teg. Wasn`t very fun. Car felt like a time bomb and could only take 3-4lbs for 20 minutes at a time.

how long have you been running your turbo like that witht he open filter/screen? I always hear bad thing about that bit my friend has over 120,000 miles on his 94 integra witha revhard kit and he has never ran more than a screen, he did get a burn valve but i dont think that was why.

Re: how many of you guys track/auto-x your turbo'd car?? (dustin)
I don't think there will be any probs AutoX. You don't drive the car long enough to do any damage. But for track racing. (long laps, not just like, 1-2 laps then stopping, I mean like... 10+ laps continuous and etc...
I will highly recommend getting a
Oil Cooler
High Cooling Radiator for coolling your engine like a Fluindyne or a C&R one.
Lots of gauges. Which ones? Get all of them, the more the better

Re: how many of you guys track/auto-x your turbo'd car?? (Mike D)
I plan on doing track events (i.e road racing) with my turbo hatch once its done. I have upgraded the following to make sure i stay detonation free during hot laps:
1. GSR dual core radiator (i had the tiny single core pos for a radiator...stock cx one)
2. 12" Autozone dual sucker fans
3. Custom oil cooler w/thermostat
4. Water/Alcohol injection
5. Redline coolant mixture
6. Run 20W-50 oil, full sythetic
The most important gauges besides boost, egt and air/fuel (turbo related stuff) is going to be water and oil temps. When you hot lap those will tell you all you need to know. I will run 8-10lbs on race gas (110+) and 50/50 mixture water/alcohol injection to make sure i keep things cool.
As far as handling upgrades goes:
1. Skunk2 front/rear strut bar
2. Skunk2 rear lower tie bar
3. Custom made strong bar
4. Autopower 4pt rollcage
5. Front gsr control arms/sway bar
6. Rear gsr control arms/skunk2 22mm sway
7. Kyb AGX shocks
8. 600/500lb skunk2 coilovers...and corner weighted/balanced!
9. Hoosiers mounted on rota slipstreams 15"
10. Quaife limited slip
I am probably going to pull at least a 1g, and my car is sub 2200lb right now w/the cage and full interior. The 60-1 t3 is going to be interesting when trying to boost into corners, probably try my best to keep out of boost. On a technical track like limerock or watkins glen my bigger turbo is going to take alot of patience to learn to modulate the throttle into corners, tracks like Pocono should be fun...especially during porsche/ferrari track events that they have all summer.
I am into drag racing, but my true love lies in road racing. I want to prove that you can infact road race a turbo honda. I have been told that it cannot be done for numerous laps, only time will tell...

Are they even necessary or are they just a waste of money? I dunno, I might be missing something here. I don't think just by having all the gauges will give you an absolute troublefree toy car.

Re: how many of you guys track/auto-x your turbo'd car?? (xbird)
Yeah my brake set-up is:
1. Rear disc conversion
2. GSR brake booster/master cylinder
3. SS Braided lines
4. Fastbrakes 11" Wilwood 4 piston calipers front
5. Fastbrakes 11.5" rear big brake kit upgrade
6. Pads are street/track compound changed to full race compound on track if needed
I am probably going to get the new fastbrake rear 2 piston Wilwood upgrade some time in the near future, but you cannot retain parking brake with those. They are hardcore race only, my car is driven on the street.

Re: how many of you guys track/auto-x your turbo'd car?? (xbird)
I drag and AutoX my Civic, I love it jusst keep the revs high out of the corners and you shouldn't have any probs staying spooled. For autox I would reccomend running low boost so you don't get to much lag.
Drag
15.2 at 4700 ft elevation at 5psi, stock suspension
now @ 6psi arospeed coilovers and will be running slicks so I should pull mid 14's low 14's high 13's @ sea level.
