Good title eh?
Basically, i need to find this out. Im finalising the turbo conversion at the moment and its just occured to me.
The tracks i go to over here have 2 noise tests;
1) .5m away from exhaust at 45deg to the tailpipe (thats the 3" one i have down the middle)
2) at trackside, listening to the 3" one down the middle at full tilt, plus the 2 open dumptubes underneath.
The noise limits there are 105db. I know mine came in at 88db when it had the 2.5 system and standard manifold on (no turbo or dumptubes).
Does anyone know, as in officially - measured, how loud a car like mine will actually be, so i can save myself the money of being chucked out after 1 lap... As i say, ive only just realised that this setup might actually be, a little bit louder than your average ford focus...
Thanks in advance chaps

The turbo cuts down on the noise a lot, I easily passed a 100db WOT test in Atlanta with a TR 3" straight through exhaust with a turbo. Without a turbo, the car is much louder with the 3" exhaust.
This is the first time i've heard of such things....my car isnt too terribly loud and i'm running 3" no cat with a straight through oval muffler at the end. Boosted cars generally aren't as loud as other things....NA open header CTRs catch a wee bit more attention IMO

on road courses they have noise restrictions but usually only for national events. is this a road race car? i assume this since you said laps and are concerned with sound.
there are spec miatas that run a straight through exhaust that are track legal and they idle louder then my turbo car does with a straight through exhaust. the only time i think i could possibly be louder is WOT under full boost, and i think then the turbo is louder than my exhaust note.

Hadn't heard of that in road racing, either. It really depends upon track location.

Thanks for the replies chaps!!
To clear up the confusion, they are road race tracks, happens alot over here for some reason.. But not on the drag strips.. I dont think there is any restriction.. Even if the tracks dont have restrictions, they all occasionally have "quiet days"...
The ones i was talking about were Oulton Park in Cheshire and Angelsey in Wales..
Its good to know its quieter, i was concerned that having a tubular manifold .etc would counteract the quieting effect of the turbo.. Still a little concerned about open dump tubes, but ill see how it goes..
Thanks alot!!
