Default how good are 1gen eclipse blowoff valves

I got a dsm friend that recommended me to get one. He said something like having to "crush" it so it would hold boost better. Anyone have some experience with it. I could get it for 40 bucks and if it does the job than that leaves me with more money to spend on other parts.

ps. How do you "crush" it?

i used a C-clamp

takes very little force to crush it.

mine makes funny noises at part throttle. going to crush it some more and ditch it if it keeps whistling.

it seems to work just fine otherwise.

cheap, works great, sounds clean

40 is a lil pricey for it but still cheaper than most bovs out there

you prob wont even need to crush it unless your gonna run large amounts of boost.

i use it and i'd recommend it. good luck

My friend has one on his talon running 20 psi daily driven, it's a hella better than the 2nd gen ones that are made of plastic

Awesome, best part of my whole turbo system

I love mine. Not crushed as of yet, and it sounds good. I'm thinking about crushing it just to have the higher pitched sound.

Happy to help
As far as crushing goes, I'd much rather do the mod in that link, and it seems a lot more suitable for both low and high boost situations

sorry but noob question, in that page it mentions that the bov is open to outside air when cruising, is that true for all bovs? And so we would need to attach a filter to it?

You don't need to attach a filter to your BOV, in fact, pretty much no one that I've seen on HT does, it's just something that can't hurt, and will maybe let you sleep a little easier at night.

i am pretty sure, with my 18g turbo, that the air is always exiting the bov - not entering - at all times, even at idle.

Supposidly at idle they open up some, even if just a little bit, and let unfiltered air into the engine. Try this - hook your BOV into a vaccum line that's getting a strong vaccum - like your engine at idle, and see if it lifts at all. Mine does a little bit past 20Hg of vaccum. But hey, maybe your's dosen't, and you're just lucky. Either way, I'm not bothering to put a filter on it
