How easy is it to pull out a Hondata for emissions?
Here is my question, I want to run the Greddy 96+ ls turbo kit which is CARB legal when using FMU and no IC. Eventiually I would want to build my engine and turn up the boost but my question is would it be possible to easily pull out a Hondata and IC and reinstall my FMU and turn down the boost to make it legal. I mean could I pull it out and put it back in without getting it retuned? Even if I have to retune it wouldnt be that bad because its only every two years.

According to the law at the present time I cant modify the kit at all. Not even the e-manage is legal yet. Also having the IC nullifys the CARB status, the only legal IC Greddy has is for a civic. I am sure I could always pass the sniffer but I dont think I will get past the visual if I modify the kit. You can go to the CARB website and see what is legal at the present time http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...es/devices.htm

I think different states have different requirement. In Wa, if you have an OBD2 car, they don't even use the sniffer in the tail pipe. Instead, they plug a scanner to the OBD2 port and read any stored codes and verify the O2 sensors reading. I was thinking about just tune the car within the allowable spec and be fine, but that proves to be wrong. Which means, I'll have to reinstall my OBD2 ECU, stock flow rate injectors, cat and secondary O2 sensor.

if they perform the OBD-2 test, they will plug a mini-computer into the port and read information from the ECU, but the Hondata will not know what to sed since it is OBD-1 and the computer will show errors. it would be easy to solder up the FCU if only for two years you will be fine.

Thats right, I forgot about the obdII tests. Actually I have never had emission testing because I have driven a '70 bug most of my life and my parents have never owned an obdII car. So what you are saying is I can use the hondata and then just unplud the hondata ecu and obdII converter harness and just reinstall the FMU before emissions and I should be fine? Assuming I do it long enough before the test to reset my stock ecu because I know if you reset it too soon before the test, i.e. less than 24 hours, it will throw a code for that.

would I have to have my hondata retuned when I reinstall it just to be safe or as long as everything is the same I will be ok?

as long as everything is the same, you put the stock ecu and the FMU for a couple of days to get somethings in your log, and then right after the smog, put your hondata back in and you will be fine.no retuning necessary.
