Default How to detect boost leak

Does anyone have an easy way to check for a boost leak without removing the piping itself?

Any degree of substantial boost leak will prohibit you from seeing much if any boost, that's an easy way of knowing you've got boost leak.. aside from the obvious looking at the piping.

strap it to the dyno and listen, just recheck all the pipes for cracks and silicone hose.

hmm, what I do ? set my AVC-R at .5 bar, and check my boost gauge...
I ran my boost gauge to the intake manifold, in a way a true representation of the boost going in the engine...

I blew an intercooler pipe last night... driving around I would lay into it get like .3 bar and then it would go back to .2 and I couldn't build boost past it. I could hear the air blowing out of the piping!

Does anyone know of a way to tell where it is, I opened the boost controller up quite a bit today, it would go up to 4 psi then drop to 2psi around 4.5k rpms or so, and I would hear a terrible rattling noise, I do not think it was detonation, as it was very loud, as where people would stop and look at my car as I pass by, and this is with the throttle wide open. Thanks for your help.

I think the esiest way to detect a leak is to mix soap and water and spray it on the pipes and conections, and get a friend to rev it up look carfuly for bubles you will find any leak

Just look around and rev the motor with your hand. It's not too hard, so long as you are not deaf, you should be able to focus on the point at which the sound is originating. Start with your manifold though, look for cracks.

You are going to laugh at me for this but I swear it will work for you.

Get a cardboard paper tube from a roll of toilet paper or paper towels.

Get one ear-plug.

Start the car and have someone rev the engine while you plug one ear and listen through the tube pointing it at the manifold and charge piping. You will hear a hiss noise near the leak.

You will look stupid doing it, but I use this method to isolate 'ticks' in my engines and it works good.
