If I dont want to create boost (breaking in motor), can I just completly remove the Tial WG spring? It makes sense to me, but maybe I am missing a factor in the equation?
Just take the spring out. You wont have enough exhaust energy to get the turbine/compressor shaft into the rpm range to generate boost pressure. I have done the spring trick for many cars, and no boost is generated if the placement of the wastegate is efficient.

i've heard that you could destroy your turbo by doing this. the reason was because you need some resistance on the compressor side...etc, etc....i forgot.

yea me and jeff did the wg spring trick when doing my partial throttle tuning before, works great. its not hard not to boost though when breakign the motor in , i just didnt get on it, and eased the rpms up to seat the rings. just takes will power not to boost

Well being that I havent driven my car in 6 months, I dont see how its possible for me to resist boosting
Thanks for the quick replies. I will take the spring out. This will obviously make my car sound like a donkey correct?

This is a really bad idea. You'd basically be leaving no resistance to the turbo. It would therefore spin 'infinetely".

Yea, when my intercooler piping popped off in the middle of nowhere, I had to drive miles before I could fix it. I think thats why my turbo makes funny noises now when I sping the wheel
Rebuild is coming up after my motor is broken in.

Haha if I just leave it off the manifold, wont that nuke my engine bay?

I say find that website that teaches you how to break in a motor BY beating on it... then just go out and let 'er rip
Supposedly works better than normal breakins, and is hell-of-alot more fun!
I found the website for everybody... it's rather interesting!

True. You'll over spin the turbo.

Yea I read that site, but it says nothing about beating on it hard WITH BOOST. I wanna beat on it NA.

That will make my spool infinite psi, right?

It happened to me 2 times. And then I noticed the strange noise. It sounds like metal rubbing metal. When it happened the first time, I didnt think it was bad, so I decided to have fun flooring it to bring back the memories of all motor weakness. It also made a cool hairdryer sound with no piping. But then I realized it was bad...

Yes you will spool untill something pops... I'd say within about 3 seconds of spool up you'll hear some bad noises followed by alot of smoke and shrapnell

My turbo sounds like that
My spool sounds like a garbage disposal... I've blown off my IC piping a couple times, but nothing too bad. I haven't thought much of it until I read this thread... what kind of bad things does that noise suggest?? Is it in need of an immediate rebuild?

I dont know what the noise actually means. Maybe some shaft thingy-ma-bobb inside the turbo got bent? Haha im clueless. Even though it makes the sound, the car still pulled hard. Im definatly going to do a rebuild though.
