how to the condition

Default hot to tell condition

i'm going to look at a t3 turbo and intercooler of a turbo coupe on saturday, guy wants $175 for both. just wondering what all to look at when trying to tell what condition the turbo is in. thanks

OK , now i got that outta my system. Check for shaftplay in the turbo. Look for oil around the housings and wheels and inlet and such. Honestly it sounds too good to be true.
The IC have it pressure tested. look for dents and such

not sure what shaft play is and do i want oil around the housing and wheels and such?

Grab the end of the shaft and wiggle it around a bit... (you know which shaft right?)

Wiggle it both in/out and up/down, there should very very little movement...

Check the wheels for excess oil and buildup... make sure the shaft spins freely...

Put you finger in the exhaust outlet and if you get oil on your finger, then the turbo seals are gone. Same with the compressor housing.

Shaft play is how much the wheels and shaft moves. Its okay to have a little bit of shaft play (moves up/down/left/right) But the turbo is dead if the Shaft moves in and out.
