Default what to look for when buying used turbo

after doing some searching in the FI fourms, i could not find anything about what to look for when buying a used turbo... im new to the boosted world and if i can find a good turbo used i want to know what to look for (damage/abuse wise), other than obvious things.
what are some ?s i need to ask the owner, etc.

thanks!

The compressor and turbine wheels will give you a good idea of the condition of the turbo. If they look really dark and oily, that's your first sign to move on. People always ask about "shaft play" which is the amount to which the shaft (that connects the turbine and compressor wheels) moves. It is supposed to move a little for the oil gap, but if it moves too much, oil can pass the seals and leak into the housings. If it is really extreme, the wheels can contact the housings.

If you're unsure, post pics in this thread and we'll give you some advice
