Just grab the shaft and try to wiggle it up and down... Then in and out..

Any real testing needs to be done on a machine.. Also your going to have a little wobble since the bearings dont have any oil on them.. My Garrett turbo from the junkyard had a little bit of shaft play but when I fed oil into it, it didnt have any play at all..

There's no oil in the intercooler or the charge pipes.

if its still in the car, drive it around for a bit and see if you can smell burning oil, or see oil coming out of the compressor inlet. thats a sign of a blown seal.
